Big congratulations to my friend and student, Wes! Wes just became the first person to earn a black belt from Sussex Karate Academy.

Back in 2020 when during the height of the pandemic this guy asked if I would train his son and himself. He essentially kick started this whole thing! My friend (a great supporter of all arts, even martial!) just so happened to have a giant garage area she was renting for the .We started training, on that cement floor in the middle of winter, barefoot. It was a great spartan old school 80's/90's karate feel (but very much appriciate the hardword floors we have now!).

His dedication, discipline, and perseverance over the years have been inspiring to everyone in our Dojang — especially to me.

Wes proves that it's never too late to start something new and see it through with heart and grit.
