Feeling guilty that you don’t have enough fun planned for your kids this summer?
I remember wanting to plan epic summers for my kids since they really deserved a break from the school year. But I was working fulltime and, without school, our schedules seemed even more complicated from changing to new camps every couple of weeks.
I wish I’d tried the following. It would have helped me feel less guilty.
Step 1. Guide your kids to create a Summer 2022 Bucket List together.
Step 2. Ask them what simple pleasures — small activities — would make their summer extra fun. Use this list for ideas.
Step 3. Decide how often you can accomplish something on the bucket list (maybe once per week?).
Step 4. Count the weeks you have left in the summer and choose that number of simple pleasures to put on your bucket list.
Step 5. Ask yourself if the list feels reasonable to you. If it feels overwhelming change the activities or frequency.
Step 6. Decide who will choose which bucket list item is next. If relevant, include the kid choosing to be part of the planning for the activity.
Step 7. Write your Summer 2022 Bucket List and post it somewhere everyone can see it.
Step 8. As you complete each bucket list item, cross it off.
Step 9. At the end of the summer, review your bucket list and see how much extra fun you and the kids had. Talk about what should be on next summer’s bucket list.
Step 10. Have fun and make some memories!

Do you worry that if you share how changes at work impact your personal life you won’t be seen as a team player? Does your team culture reward happily accepting increases in workload — even though people are silently calculating how the additional work will impact life outside of work?
Our work-first culture sustains this fear. Which contributes to the struggle to manage the competing demands of work and family.
I approached work the same way for years. All it got me was stress, resentment, and chronic illness.
Discussing how workload impacts your life doesn’t have to call into question your commitment to the team. You can still make major contributions to the team EVEN if you provide objective feedback on how changes in workload impact your life.
When you start reclaiming some power at work:
⏱️ Stop feeling unbalanced and overloaded
⏱️ Rebalance work + life on your terms
So, do you want to continue prioritizing work first and sacrificing your wellbeing or do you want to succeed by taking charge of your choices and reclaiming some control over your workload?
SWIPE to learn two reasons why sharing how work impacts life makes you a better team player.
P.S. Follow me if you want to learn my step-by-step method on how to rebalance work + life on your terms.
