Drowning is the number one cause of death for kids under the age of 5 years old. One way to help prevent is making sure your child is in a visible swim suit! The BRIGHTER the better!

Meet Ms Nyka

Nyka has been with us since we opened, but grew up swimming for Silver Bear at our Sparks Location. You will find her in the water teaching both lower and upper levels including swim team and water workouts. She also works on deck and at the front desk!

What made you want to work at Silver Bear?
I used to swim so I thought it would be fun to teach it and work with kids.

What is your favorite level to teach and why?
Black 1’s because I love teaching them their new skills and seeing how excited they get to learn all the swims.

What type of bear best represents you?
A Koala Bear because they are really chill.

What are your favorite hobbies?
I love reading and listening to music.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself done with school and hopefully being a travel nurse.

What is your favorite place you have traveled to?
Ghana, West Africa

What is something people don’t know about you?

Meet Ms Ella

Ella has been with us since 2020 and you can find her in the water at Northwest teaching baby. Fun fact...Ms Ella has worked at all 4 of our locations. South Reno, Sparks, Northwest and even our Utah location!

What made you want to work at Silver Bear?
I wanted to work with my sister and stay busy during Covid.

What is your favorite level to teach and why?
Even though I only teach baby now- and I love both baby 1 and 2- I used to love teaching polar and koala bears. You see so much development from start to finish, it’s very rewarding to feel like you helped each swimmer grow.

What type of bear best represents you?
A Panda Bear.

What are your favorite hobbies?
I love yoga, ceramics, and hiking.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself hopefully working as a CRNA or in nursing education and going on medical trips to other countries when I am.

What is your favorite place you have traveled to?
Either Belgium, France, or the Galápagos Islands/ Ecuador.

What is something people don’t know about you?
I have a dog named Shirley who I spend all of my extra time with.

What is your favorite local food place?
Taco shop or Thai Lotus

What is a… Koala Bear?

Koala Bears are our 4 and 5 year olds. Our Koala’s can either come from our Panda levels or they can be brand new to swimming.

Koala has three levels - 1, 2, and 3. Koala 1’s are focused on breath control, kicking, and being comfortable on their backs. Koala 2’s are focused on kicking, scoops, and independent back float. Koala 3’s are focused on arrow, pop-up breath and back kicking.

Some fun facts about Koala’s in real life:
• They can sleep up to 20 hours a day
• A Koala Bear has fingerprints similar to humans
• These bears can consume up to 2lbs of eucalyptus
leaves each day

We love our Koala Bears!
