KICKBOXING CAMP
Monday March 27th – Friday March 31st

Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Site: Basix Martial Arts Studio – 80 East Patriot, Ste C
Instructor: Paul Siemon

• Fun games and fitness challenges
• Kickboxing fundamentals training
• Bring water bottle
• Bring sack lunch & snacks
• No martial arts experience required
• Wear comfortable clothes for working out and physical activities

 Cost: $125 per camp session/week (20% family discount) – free training gloves with payment
 Limit - 12 campers per camp session
 Minimum 4 students to hold camp session

Paul recently received an email from one of his former black belt students. It is one of the greatest compliments he has received in his 30+ years of teaching martial arts. It is not only a testament to his teaching abilities but also affirms that Basix had achieved what Paul had always wanted for the school - a place where students can "freely be" themselves while learning self protection along with self-discipline and respect. Sadly, the email also mentions an unfortunate experience. We thought it important to share (to protect her privacy, initials were substituted for names - Thank you "C"):

"Dear Paul,

I was a student of yours for about 12+ years with my two older sisters, "K" and "E". I was in Reno visiting my dad this weekend and saw your new studio on a drive and I knew I wanted to reach out to you, whether you remember me or not.

I learned so much from you growing up. I was a precocious and independent child (read: difficult!), and my free-spirited attitude often got me in trouble. But I always felt like your studio was a place where I could come and freely be myself and get out energy, while also sneakily learning self-discipline and respect. I know I gave you a hard time sometimes, and I’m sorry for that, but I truly loved learning from you and I’m so appreciative of your kindness, compassion, and good humor. I felt acceptance from you that helped me learn to accept myself.

Perhaps most importantly, you taught me how to protect myself. I was attacked at a party during my second year of college and taken to a secluded room. Despite inebriation, my body kicked into muscle memory and I was able to break my attacker’s grip, shatter his nose, and get out and get help. I was able to defend myself because of you, and I think about you every time I think about that night. Your skills and dedication to teaching me helped save and empower me. I can never thank you enough.

I’m not sure if you often get to hear from former students, but I hope to ensure you that you have made an immeasurable difference in this world. I’m expecting a daughter in December and I hope to teach her what you’ve taught me.

I hope you’re well and enjoying life. Thank you for everything."
