Competitive shooting skills and drill class - taught by USPSA Grand Master Cyle Fischer

If you are a competitive handgun shooter in USPSA or IDPA and you want to improve your shooting technique and match performance this is the class for you.

The class will be held at WNPL on the first Sunday of each month from 8am to 2pm and is limited to 8 shooters. Cost is $160 which you can pay on line or in cash at the class.

During the class Cyle will focus on the following key areas:

Trigger control
Target sequencing within a stage
Shooting flow to minimize dead time while shooting a stage
Stage planning and performance

To shoot the class you will need a handgun, 300 rounds of ammunition, a good belt and holster, and 3 magazine pouches.

WNPL membership is required. USPSA membership also is desirable as it will enable you to track your match improvement. The class is typically suitable for a “C” class or higher USPSA shooter.

Please bring a notebook and pen.

USPSA Match Directors Report May 1, 2 and 3rd

It was a busy three days - with our first Friday practise trial, followed by full matches on Saturday and Sunday. We lost some shooters to a neighbouring steel championship match, but turnout was still solid.

The matches saw the first use of our new category awards - for example “Grinders Crown” for the winner of B/C class, “Iron Guard” for best iron sight shooter and WNPL “Old Warrior” For Senior + shooters. They were well received and a lot of fun to hand out.

The Friday practise session was scheduled for 1-7pm, but by 5pm everyone was exhausted. We set up and shot one stage in a variety of ways and that format worked well. Moving forward the goal is 10 shooters and to run the practise once a month. I am looking at May 29th as the next one. Once confirmed it will be on Practiscore for $15.

During the Saturday and Sunday matches, most stages went smoothly and designs were well received. There were no squad back ups.

Towards the end of Saturday there were some minor issues with a forward falling popper that activated a sw***er. Tweaks fixed it, and on Sunday it worked well all day. I thought the stage itself was an excellent design. Swingers were set up on two of the six stages and will continue to feature in our matches - with difficulty levels progressively ramped up.

From the next match on May 9th, Tony and I decided to start one squad on the Classifier stage. The goal here is to better prepare shooters for other matches, such as section or area.

Running 3 days back to back minimized set up time. Excellent! I was also very pleased with the level of participation in the Sunday breakdown. Very few people left early, and those that did were noted … 🙂

By not posting match scores till breakdown, raffle and awards were complete, also meant a full house in the post match meeting. We will stick to this format.

So, in summary, a great weekend with a lot of shooting.

Also a big thanks to Luke Karsten for hours of work cutting and painting target sticks. Equally big thanks to Cole Hornback making a LOT of walls for future matches. Great work guys.

See you all at the range!
