Mike will break down:
• Systems to balance academics, athletics, and personal life
• How structure creates freedom and reduces stress
• Daily and weekly planning tools for consistent improvement

Week 2 of Mental Performance Coaching with Mike McCarthy-Visualization and Mindfulness
Welcome to Week 2 of Mike McCarthy’s Mental Performance Coaching Series, hosted by MSP
Diamond Lab.
This week’s session explores how visualization and mindfulness can transform the way athletes prepare, perform, and recover.
Mike will break down:
• How to mentally rehearse success before stepping onto the field
• Techniques to slow the game down through breath and awareness
• The connection between focus, confidence, and clarity under pressure
• Practical mindfulness exercises for training and competition
By the end of this session, athletes will learn to train their minds as intentionally as their bodies. Seeing success before it happens and maintaining presence through every pitch, rep, and moment.
“Saw ur sauna video, if I only have access to the sauna let’s say 1 time away is it still beneficial or is it just a waste of 15-20 minutes?”
Going to the sauna 1x a week is WAY better than zero. “Anything above zero compounds.”
Regular heat exposure challenges the body to adapt in ways that support endurance, recovery, and mental resilience. For athletes, that means improved output, faster recovery, and a stronger overall foundation.
1. Recovery and circulation
Sauna use increases heart rate and blood flow, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to muscles and clears out waste products. This supports quicker recovery and reduces soreness.
2. Cardiovascular conditioning
Time in the sauna elevates heart rate to levels similar to moderate aerobic exercise. Over time, this can strengthen the heart, improve circulation, and support cardiovascular efficiency.
3. Stress adaptation and focus
The controlled heat environment trains both body and mind to stay composed under discomfort. This develops discipline, tolerance, and the ability to perform under pressure.
4. Sleep and relaxation
After a sauna session, the body cools down naturally, which promotes deeper sleep and activates the parasympathetic system for recovery.
5. Longevity and overall health
Long term studies in Finland show that consistent sauna use—four to seven times per week, fifteen to twenty five minutes per session at around one hundred seventy degrees Fahrenheit—is linked to lower rates of cardiovascular disease and all cause mortality.
The sauna is not a shortcut. It is an investment in recovery, cardiovascular health, and mental strength. When used consistently, it supports the long term development of both the athlete and the person.

Welcome to Week 1 of Mike McCarthy’s Mental Performance Coaching Series, hosted by MSP Diamond Lab. This week’s session dives into one of the most powerful mental shifts in sports by learning to embrace failure and focus on the process over the outcome.
Mike will break down:
• How elite athletes reframe failure as feedback
• Why outcome obsession stalls progress
• Building routines that create consistency under pressure
• Mental tools to stay locked in pitch to pitch and at bat to at bat
By the end of this session, athletes and parents will understand how mindset directly influences performance and how mastering this first principle sets the tone for the next three weeks.

One of the most challenging parts for players and coaches right now is knowing “when, where and how” to use the technology. So many players/coaches and coaches I meet choose to 100% adopt technology as if it’s the gospel. Other coaches (and some players) have massive pushback on it. The more questions I ask them about their understanding, the more I realize it is an intimidation of the other side. Like anything in life, their is new technology that can help us be better but also many things that have been around for a long time that are just as relevant today as they use to be. Be inquisitive, explore the technology but always focus on playing the game.
