Try the Yoga Therapy for Digestive Health Case Series for Yourself

Yoga for Scleroderma’s fall calendar is built around a theme: several sessions now let participants practice directly from the Yoga Therapy for Digestive Health case series.

On September 9, Kathy Randolph, C-IAYT, is teaching a reclining class built from Case P(68) in the series — one of the three cases examined in the original study. The session uses an inclined constructive rest position, supported by bolsters, pillows, or a wedge, and is designed to be GERD-friendly. Participants are encouraged to have their incline set up before class and try the position themselves rather than just observe it. The class is part of the National Scleroderma Foundation’s monthly series, held the second Wednesday of the month, January through November.

The following week, on September 16, the same practice becomes the focus of our monthly live podcast, held the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm ET. Sessions not caught live are archived on the Yoga for Scleroderma YouTube channel and podcast feed.

For readers following the digestive health case series research, October brings a related session worth marking now: on October 21, I’ll be joining the podcast to walk through the case series results directly — the same work published in the Journal of Scleroderma and Related Disorders and presented at the World Scleroderma Congress, the Neuroscience and Yoga Conference, the IAYT Symposium, and the National Scleroderma Foundation’s Baltimore conference this year.

Beyond the digestive health sessions, the fall calendar includes Teressa Colosimo’s beginner-friendly stretch and chair classes running September through November, open to participants in Canada and internationally, and a special in-person seminar on scleroderma skin health hosted by Scleroderma Outreach Northwest on October 13 in Bellingham, Washington.

All of the monthly classes and podcasts are free, live, and designed with modifications so participants at different mobility levels can take part. None of the live sessions are recorded, so questions and real-time guidance from instructors are part of what makes attending directly worthwhile.
