This class is taught by Grand Master Mikeal ‘Bear’ Smith: Named WHFSC National Self Defense Master of the Year (2017) and five time Hall of Fame Inductee and 9th Degree Black Belt Founder of the PGR Self-Protection System(TM), ranked 5th Degree Black Belt in American Tang Soo Do, 4th Degree Black Belt in NinJitsu and 4th Degree Black Belt in JuJitsu and is a Certified Advanced Instructor with the International SFC Unarmed Combatives Group (Force Necessary) with training in Close Quarters Combat and Philippine Stick Fighting. Educated in the healing practices of Japanese first aid and Chinese acupressure.

Anyone recognize this GROWN MAN who decided it was a good idea to bully one of my young KIDS as he came into the studio yesterday 5/8/24?? He and his dark haired wife apparently went to get Indian food downstairs. After bullying my student ordering him to take off his mask because he “watched a documentary” he then threatened to “make fun” of my student and then followed him into my studio! I’m so upset I didn’t see him and by the time I learned about the situation the bully was long gone. The kid he chose to bully has had so many struggles (hence his decision to wear his mask)… I am beyond disgusted by him and his behavior and would love to identify him for the world to see.

Many adults hold children to higher emotional standards than themselves. Because they are uncomfortable with their own experiences of pain & discomfort, they cannot accept it in their children.

This can teach children that their age appropriate reactions & feelings are wrong or bad.

It also leaves them without the resources they need to regulate their nervous systems which can lead to a lifetime of disconnection or suppression of discomfort.

When these children become adults, they must learn how to connect with their feelings in a way that feels safe if they want to break the cycle of carrying the pain & shame of those that came before them.

It can be a lonely journey without much validation from those we crave it from the most, but it’s much more freeing than living with projections that never belonged to you.

For over 25 years, KJN Denice Slater has been providing a safe, fun environment for students of all ages to excel in martial arts.
