One of the coolest things about Jiu-Jitsu is watching people grow together. Countless rounds, tough classes, laughs after training, and just being there week after week.

Big congrats to Eric and Nate on earning new stripes on their blue belts tonight. Well deserved and a reflection of the time and effort they’ve both been putting in on the mats. Proud of these guys and the friendship they’ve built through training. 👊🥋

I always like to remind my students that everyone has a different journey in Jiu-Jitsu. For some, it’s a straight path, for others (like mine), it’s a lot more winding, but still fulfilling.

I wanted to share the journey of one of our blue belts, Ashton.

When Ashton started Jiu-Jitsu at Ruffhouse, he was over 300 pounds. Through sheer determination and consistency, he’s lost over 150 pounds.

But more importantly, he changed his life.

I truly believe Jiu-Jitsu saved his life.

This is a powerful story and an example for anyone thinking about starting or struggling to keep going.

Promotion day is one of the best parts of BJJ. Belts and stripes are a recognition, but what they really represent are the hours someone was willing to give to something bigger than themselves, and that’s an achievement worth celebrating.
