On this date in 1956, Mickey Mantle won his first of three American League MVP Awards. The Triple Crown winner didn’t only lead the AL; he led all of baseball with 52 home runs, 130 RBI and a .353 average.

Mantle also smashed three home runs in the World Series as the Yankees defeated the Dodgers in seven games.
