Most men don’t make friends face to face. We make them shoulder to shoulder.

Think about it. Your closest friends probably came from a team, a job site, a band, a dorm. You were doing something side by side, and the friendship just happened.

Then adulthood took all that away. Work, family, bills. No more team. No more crew. And most of us never figured out how to replace it.

That’s why our Ferncliff circle starts with a walk. Men walking through the woods together, side by side, before anyone has to say a word.

Every man I know is starving for the same thing. Almost none of us will say it.

Yesterday three men walked into our Kingston circle for the first time. One was 29. One was 73. Completely different lives.

Within an hour, all three of them said it out loud.

We want community. A real place to let our guard down. And a chance to be of service to someone besides ourselves.

That’s it. That’s the thing. Not more advice, not more hustle. Just other men who won’t flinch when you tell the truth.

If that’s you, there’s a seat for you.

If your life fell apart tonight, who would you call?

Not who you’d text “I’m good.” Who you’d actually call at 2am and tell the truth.

If you had to think about it, you’re not alone. In 1990, 3 out of 100 men said they had no close friends. Now it’s 15 out of 100. Five times as many men with nobody in their corner.

We weren’t built to carry life alone. Somewhere along the way, work, marriage, kids, and moving towns quietly took our friendships, and nobody taught us how to make new ones as grown men.

The seven men accused of drugging, graping, filming, and publicly inviting others upstairs through Snapchat were reportedly offered essays as a way to mitigate their punishment.

A young woman’s violent assault by multiple men turned into a school assignment.

This is not accountability. It is institutional protection and a devastating insult to every survivor who has been told to stay quiet, wait patiently, or accept less than justice.

You are not alone.
You’re allowed to ask for help.
You deserve peace.
Your feelings matter.
It’s ok to be tired.
You are not a failure.

Most of us were never told these things. We were told to man up, handle it, figure it out. So we carry it quietly and call it strength.

It’s not. Real strength is saying the true thing out loud to another man and finding out he’s been carrying it too.

If one of these hit you this morning, that’s not weakness. That’s your heart telling you what it needs.

Send this to a man who needs to hear it today.

RP King Randall, I. 🙏🏿 This guy was mean-mugging me, so I mean-mugged him back. We exchanged words… and then he “pulled a weapon.”

That’s how fast a pointless situation can escalate.

Today I taught the boys that de-escalation can start with something as simple as a smile, a greeting, or deciding not to match somebody else’s energy.

A lot of young men think walking away makes them soft. It doesn’t.

If you’ve done what you can to calm a situation down and the other person still wants a problem, leave.

You don’t have to prove you’re tougher.
You don’t have to win every stare-down.
You don’t have to let your ego make a permanent decision over a temporary moment.

The goal is to make it back home to your family.

Then we watched men say it out loud in a circle of other men and not get judged for it.

Sunday we close out Permission to Rise with the question that actually matters: what have you been wanting to build that you haven’t? And what’s stopping you?

Meditation, breath work, and real conversation with heart-centered men who won’t bu****it you.
