Big news at Southlands 🤎 We’re so excited to officially launch the Southlands IEA Team this September.

This is a really exciting next step for our riding program and a brand-new opportunity for our students to compete, grow, build confidence and be part of something together.

IEA is open to riders in 4th through 12th grade, with classes ranging from beginner walk/trot through advanced and over-fences divisions. Riders compete on unfamiliar horses, which makes it such a unique test of horsemanship, adaptability and confidence.

As part of the team, riders will have the chance to compete both individually and as a team, strengthen their riding, develop sportsmanship and teamwork, and work toward Regional, Zone and National competition.

Weekly team practices will take place on Tuesdays or Thursdays at 4:30 or 5:30 PM at Southlands.

We’ve been so excited to bring this program to Southlands and cannot wait to see our riders representing us in the IEA ring this season. 💙

Our latest Southlands Connections is here, and there’s a lot to catch up on. From Jumpstart Camp and Pony Finals to our new IEA Team, upcoming September events, a very successful nesting season, and of course, the official introduction of our newest little star, Stanley. 🐴

We’re also looking back on our 2026 Annual Meeting, welcoming new Board members, and sharing our gratitude for Debbie Beatrice and Katy Kollar for their years of service to Southlands.

✨ Joss Sher & Headon Bewitched — Champion in both Modified Child/Adult Hunters and Modified Child/Adult Equitation

✨ Lincoln Russell & Headon Bewitched — Reserve Champion Beginner Short Stirrup

✨ Soy Lee & Czechmate Z — Champion Low Hunters and winner of the Judges’ Choice “Outstanding Rider of the Day”

✨ Stella Harrison & Arnaby Mystical Izzidora — Champion Beginner Short Stirrup

✨ Violet Harrison & Arnaby Mystical Izzidora — Winners of both Lead Line Walk/Trot classes

And to cap it all off, Lucy went home with High Point Trainer of the Day! 🏆

So proud of this whole crew and all of the horses who made it such a fun and successful day.

We are SO excited to finally share the news… Southlands has a brand new mini foal! 🤎🐴

Born on April 28, this sweet little guy is officially the newest member of the Southlands family.

He’ll be so much more than an adorable new face around the barn. As he grows, he’ll become an important part of our school, community and therapeutic programming, camps, and so much more. Most of all, he’ll be a very loved member of the Southlands family for our riders, campers, visitors, and entire community to know and enjoy for years to come.

There’s just one problem… he needs a name!

It’s our favorite week of the year… Fair Week! 🎡🐴

Southlands has a long history at the Dutchess County Fair Horse Show, with our riders and horses attending for more than 70 years. It was one of Deborah Dows’ favorite shows, and she began showing there in the 1950s.

We’re so proud of our crew representing Southlands this year: Emma Gilpin, Joss Sher, Kira Freilich, Lincoln Russell, Stella Harrison and Violet Harrison. And a special shoutout to Averie Feroe, making us proud up on 4-H Hill with her beautiful cows!
