There are so many reasons why I love October.
The cooler temperatures.
Nature putting on a stunning display of color.
Pumpkin everything.
Halloween movies.
Fun costumes.
And, of course, the theme of magic.
Magic is kind of my thing.
If you’ve been to one of my yoga classes, you’ve probably heard me close class by inviting us to find the magic in the moment.
Because to me, living in presence is living in your magic.
I’ll never forget the first time I really felt the magic of an ordinary moment.
It was a cool, sunny fall day, and I was sitting in my car with the windows down, waiting for my son to get off the bus.
A gentle breeze came through the window and brushed against my skin. It felt like silk.
That was it.
Nothing extraordinary was happening. No big breakthrough. No perfectly curated moment.
Just me, the breeze and the warmth of the sun
And yet, something about that moment felt incredibly profound.
I remember thinking, there is so much here.
So much to receive and be grateful for
Ever since, this has been one of the simplest, and most meaningful, things I want to teach.
Come back to the moment.
It sounds simple, but it can be surprisingly difficult for the mind to grasp.
Our minds love to wander into the past, replaying what happened, wishing we had done something differently, carrying old stories with us.
Or they rush ahead into the future, anticipating, planning, worrying, wondering what comes next.
And somewhere in between all of that thinking, we can miss the only moment we are actually living.
This one.
The breath moving through your body.
The sunlight coming through the window.
The warmth of your coffee.
The sound of your favorite song.
The hand of someone you love.
The crispness of the October air against your skin.
Magic is something we can choose to notice
This October, I invite you to slow down enough to receive it.
Because everything you need to experience this moment fully already exists right here.
With love and gratitude,
Lauren and the whole team at HMY
