League Age Determination - Little League 03/03/2020

Attention all Richland National Little Leaguers and Parents!
The 2020 Season is fast approaching, and we wanted to send out an email with some important information as we prepare to get this season underway. We hope you are as excited as we are about beginning another great season!

Throughout the season, we will communicate upcoming events via email, our website and our Facebook account Richland National Little League (please like our page to get the most up-to-date info), so keep an eye out as the season approaches.

FAQ & Updates:

Please know your child’s league age, so that they attend the proper tryout session. https://www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/determine-league-age/. Please contact a board member if you have questions about this.

5 and 6 year olds (Single A) – do not tryout, they are placed on a Single A team. Managers will meet with the League on Monday March 16th at 5:30. This meeting is mandatory for all Single A coaches.

7 and 8 year olds (Double A) - do not tryout, they are placed on a Double A team. (Unless your 8 year old is trying out for AAA. Then they will tryout with the league 9s. Please make sure you have notified us if your league age 8 child is trying out for AAA). Managers will meet with the League for the coaches meeting and establish teams on Monday March 16th at 5:30(Double A). This is a mandatory meeting.

We get A LOT of special requests every season. These range from carpool requests, to requests for managers, practice days and times, playing with buddies, wanting to be on the Mariners, you name it! As you can probably imagine, honoring all of these requests for such a large league just can’t happen. However, if you have any reasonable special requests for us to consider, please submit these prior to March 14th! This is by no means a guarantee that they will be honored, just that they will be considered. If you have any questions about what requests can be considered, please contact Nate Watkins, the player agent for the league. Requests that will be guaranteed:
Eligible age Siblings on the same team at all levels except majors
Child placed in a lower level due to safety concerns
6s playing AA with previous baseball experience
8s trying out for AAA and 10s trying out for majors
If you have carpool, coach, or school friend requests at the A and AA levels, they will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
If you feel your child should be playing at a lower level than their league age dictates (i.e a league age 7 playing Single A or a 9 playing AA), there must be reason for this request, such as you feel your child is at risk of being hurt. Please keep in mind that we also have to consider the safety of other kids at that lower level, and moving older players down could also put those younger children at risk of injury. Simply moving your child down to play with a sibling should not be the primary reason. This is a developmental league, and many players may seem unprepared for a move to the next level at the start of the season. We have great coaches in place to help your child learn and grow. If you have questions or concerns about this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the player agent.

Majors and Triple A – Draft and Tryout notes:
Players are required to participate in only ONE tryout. Little League international requires participation in at least one for majors. If you do not attend you will be automatically placed in AAA.
12 year olds will be drafted on a majors team unless there is a safety issue or other concern. 11 year olds and 10 years olds are eligible for AAA or Majors. Any 10 year old wishing to try out for majors MUST attend the 11 year old age group tryout. 9 year olds are eligible for AAA. 8 year olds have the option to tryout, but must attend with the 9’s and are not guaranteed on a AAA team. Any 8’s wishing to try out should contact [email protected] ahead of time, if you have not already.
The Player Agent, President, VP and Manager Rep will be available for any questions or concerns during both tryouts. Look for people with red lanyards!
Please have your child warm up either on field 3 or in one of the batting cages. Players won’t be admitted onto their tryout field until their tryout begins.
If you have NOT had your child’s birth certificate or address/school attendance verified by RNLL or haven’t paid your league fees, you MUST do that BEFORE your child can try out or be placed on a team. You can do both of these this Saturday the 7th at tryouts. The registrations coordinator and other board helpers will be available in the clubhouse.
Tryouts should last approximately 1 1/2 hours for each age group. Players will field pop flies, ground balls, and bat (USAbat only).
Once again, Please arrive 30-45 minutes prior to your tryout time so your player can get checked in and warmed up!
League Calendar
We are working hard to finalize this year’s schedule. As you can imagine, this is a big undertaking, and has to be somewhat fluid at this point in time because registration numbers are still growing. However, majors drafts will take place on March 14th, AAA on March 15th, and AA on March 16th. Shortly after each draft, teams will be inputted, coaches will finalize their rosters and schedules, and players will be contacted shortly after. Majors and AAA players should plan to have practices begin sometime that week, with AA beginning either that week or the following, and single A the week of the 23rd.
Safety
Safety is a huge priority for RNLL. You should notice your player(s) coaches will have a charcoal RNLL lanyard. This is to show they have received a KidSafe background check for the 2020 season. All coaches should have their lanyards on during practices and games.
Any red lanyard signifies an RNLL board member, whom also have undergone the same background check.
Coaches will also undergo a First Aid Safety training prior to season start. RNLL also has a mounted AED in the clubhouse. We encourage everyone to read our RNLL Safety Manual on our website.
BOARD
Speaking of red lanyard people, if you see these folks, please give them a BIG thank you! The countless volunteer hours put into making this all happen is pretty unbelievable. Please see www.richlandnational.com for a list of board members, and their contact information. You may deliver an email to any of them that fit your question.
Thanks and looking forward to a great season of baseball!
