Things I teach in my ground pole classes.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲. 🐴

Polework has a habit of exposing the things that were already missing.

A horse that stays round and soft on the flat but rushes, tightens or inverts over poles isn't suddenly becoming a different horse. The poles have simply highlighted a weakness in their balance, reactions or understanding. That's why I don't see poles as something to get through. I see them as an opportunity to improve the quality of the work.

If the horse speeds up, I ask them to slow down. If they lose their softness, I ask for it back. If they can't stay relaxed in trot, I'll walk over the poles first until they understand that the exercise doesn't change the standard I'm expecting. The goal is never just to get from one side of the poles to the other. The goal is to go over them with the same rhythm, balance and freedom that you had on the approach. 🎯

When riders tell me they're struggling to keep a soft contact over poles, I don't tell them to soften their hands. I ask why they're having to hold in the first place. Once the horse learns to stay balanced and wait for the rider, the contact becomes softer because the horse is allowing it to be.

Well started 5 year old Mustang Mare, 14.2 hands. Looking for your own 14hands pony, look no further. Honey is Very Sweet and in your pocket kind of mare. She will meet you at the gate, and always enjoyed a good scratch. Good for the farrier, clips and trailer loads. She is still green but has a good walk, trot, canter foundation and is willing to learn under saddle and super smooth to ride. She could go in any direction with right person to guide her. She was started with a good groundwork foundation. DNA test shows Spanish bred, came from the Yakima area so no freeze brand. Honey is pretty laid back and most times has more whoa than go, but learning forward from your leg is a good thing. Been on a few trail rides, did well but will need more wet saddle pads. Currently barefoot but hoof boots are used on gravel/rocky areas. Client who is selling Honey isn’t on FB so get in touch with me and I’ll get you her info. Video upon request.

Too funny not to share…

Well my neighbor that tries to shame Murphy for being a stallion is back . She knocked on my door to ask me to keep Murphy in his stall when he is being “lewd” . I asked what he was doing? She said he was walking around with his member hanging out and at times was hitting himself with it to call the mares to him. FFS. First of all it was almost 100 degrees today, he was airing out his p***s not trying to put on a show . Second - Horses do not use their p***s’s as a percussion instrument to bring in the mares . The p***s is not the town crier . Murphy -*bang bang* here ye , here ye for all of those who are close enough to hear my p***s , The salami wagon is open for business.
I told my neighbor the truth . “ Murph is not calling mares to him he is belly thumping , he is masturbating“ Neighbor lost her s**t and told me again that I needed to find God “ in a hurry or I am lost”. As she was walking off she told me I had ruined her whole day and “how was she supposed to enjoy her Iced Tea now with Murphy sexualizing the day” I told her to make it a Long Island Ice tea and she will be fine . She flipped me off (she really needs to find God) and walked the .75 miles back to her house.
What have we learned : 1) If she would not have walked down my private drive she would not see Murphy doing stallion things .
2) Horses do not have percussion instruments for their 🍆
3) A hot horse will hang their wee wand low to help cool down ( fun fact their balls also hang much lower away from the body to try and dissipate the heat from the s***m )
4) Evidently God is lost again. So keep an eye out .
5) the only one who made things weird today was my neighbor
