How do new ideas come into the world and become real?

In her book “Big Magic,” Liz Gilbert talks about her hypothesis that ideas choose us.

Like living, breathing beings, ideas tap us on the shoulder, offer themselves up to us, and wait for us to bring them into reality.

Ideas are patient, she says – but only for so long. After a while, if you don’t nurture the idea, it will move on to a more ready and willing creative partner.

Ideas want to live, Liz says. And I’ve always believed her.

In 2017 an idea tapped me on the shoulder and told me it wanted me to bring it into being.

I wasn’t ready then. But I am now.

On Monday I’m going to share the news about my biggest, boldest, most audacious project yet.

Not because I’m hoping it becomes a unicorn that makes zillions.

But because it’s the closest thing I’ve come to (yet) that expresses my unique and authentic point of view.

It’s the closest thing I’ve come to (yet) that shares what I know in service of helping others live their most unique and authentic lives.

So, watch this space on Monday – I am literally buzzing with excitement.

And if you want to know the news sooner, be sure to subscribe to my newsletter. I’m sharing a preview with my readers on Sunday!

It’s taken me years to finally feel brave enough to say this:

I LOVE the thrill of standing at the front of the room with a microphone in my hand.

When I’m up there, I feel empowered. In flow. Aligned and on purpose.

I shied away from admitting this because I thought it was showy. Like, what would people think of me?

But the truth is: when I feel aligned in my work, I’m able to serve people more deeply.

Being on stage – whether I’m facilitating a team values session, teaching life design tools, or emceeing community events –

That’s where I feel most capable of delivering transformation for others.

And I’m no longer afraid to say it!

Have you noticed that there are certain contexts, situations or even activities that make you feel more in flow or in your purpose at work?

What might shift for you if you allowed yourself to do more of THAT?

And if you’re looking for a facilitator, inspirational speaker, or life design teacher for your next event – let’s chat!

I am interning for my Future Self.

Every day, I show up to work – ready to learn from her.

How she makes decisions. How she guides others. How she holds herself.

Every day, I show up with my family – ready to emulate her.

How she moves through the daily routines. How she’s present with her loved ones. How she cares for herself.

Through careful study and intentional practice, I am learning to become my Future Self.

And she can’t wait for me to step into her shoes one day.

[And a huge thank you to for this beautiful photo. When I see this woman in the picture, my Younger Self can’t believe that I get to be and do all that I am!]

“How do I know if it’s time to make a change?”

There are lots of reasons why people feel stuck. But one of the most common?

TIMING.

Is now the right time to…

- Quit my job?
- Negotiate for a promotion?
- Start my new business?
- Take a sabbatical?

“How do I KNOW,” you might be wondering?

So this Sunday I am sharing 3 signs that – without any doubt – will answer that question for you.

Want to know what they are? Get them delivered straight to your inbox here → https://lnkd.in/eQFEA4j4 or at the link in my bio

Now tell me: how have you answered this question in the past? What are the clues that have told you it’s time for a change?

“If you want to go far, go together.”

That was the spirit and message of BenCamp 2025 – an incredibly creative, purposeful and engaging convening hosted a few weeks ago by .

Gathering digital benefits leaders from state and local governments, along with subject matter experts from academia, nonprofits and philanthropy, BenCamp was – in my eyes – a testament to the power and potential of community.

Let’s be real: doing good work feels really hard these days, for many reasons. There are risks and challenges, seemingly at every turn.

And yet – being “in the room where [BenCamp] happened…”

I couldn’t help but be filled up by the possibility of it all.

* The possibility of great work being led by resilient, committed public servants and partners.
* The possibility of delivering human-centered, innovative services to citizens and residents across the US.
* The possibility of sharing transparent, honest stories to accelerate our collective impact.

I am sure, now more than ever, that community is the unit of measurement by which all real progress happens.

And the participants at BenCamp 2025 demonstrated that so beautifully!

Thank you Kirsten Wyatt, Ariel Kennan, Elisa Fox, Lucie Bonneville, Lynn Overmann and the entire Digital Benefits Network for inviting me to lead the conversation at BenCamp 2025 (and thanks to Toddy Dyer for being my events partner in crime!).

I am still smiling ear-to-ear after this one!

What if your next chapter felt more like YOU?

That question has been kicking around in my brain like a rock in a rock tumbler… and it just makes me wonder:

* What does it feel like when your life is aligned with who you are?
* What are you able to create or accomplish when your life supports your own authenticity?
* What are the factors that get in the way of you living an aligned and integrated life?

[Let’s be real – I never shy away from the deep questions of life!]

The thing is: most of us struggle with these questions because asking them invites even more questions.

Questions that are hard to answer.

Which then makes us feel stuck.

And feeling stuck stinks!

Here’s what I want you to know: feeling stuck is normal. It’s common. And it’s fixable.

It doesn’t have to mean there’s something wrong with you. It doesn’t have to mean you’re broken.

It just means you don’t – YET – have the tools to ‘unstick’ yourself.

Wanna know how to get yourself unstuck so you can create a life that feels like you?

I’m sharing all about it in this Sunday’s newsletter. Join here → www.wayfinderscollective.com/newsletter

Now tell me: what’s your go-to tip or tactic for getting unstuck? How do you unstick yourself?

8 years ago I had an idea grip onto me so tight – and I just couldn’t shake it.

An idea I was so inspired by, so captivated by, that I bought a domain name.

But I was also scared. It was a big idea. A very, very big idea.

I doubted my ability to follow through on it.
I doubted my expertise and whether I had enough credibility to be taken seriously.
I doubted if the idea – and by extension, if I – was valuable enough.

Now, 8 years later, I’m starting to breathe life into it.

Writing, creating, building, and yes – even preparing to publish a new website.

I can’t wait to share it with you soon.

In the meantime, this is my reminder to you:

Ideas move at their own pace. Creation is not an overnight process.

And yet, each step forward nurtures your idea. One day, you will be ready. Your idea will be ready. The world will be ready.

Keep going. Keep dreaming. Keep building. And hey, maybe buy the domain name while you’re at it 😂

My best relationship advice (from a career and life design coach)?

Choose someone who supports your EXPANSION.

This weekend Dan and I celebrated 17 years of marriage. While I knew way back then that Dan was “my person,” what I appreciate most about him today is that he genuinely wants me to evolve and grow into the fullest, most authentic version of myself.

And I genuinely want that for him, too.

There is no competition. No staying small for fear of outshining the other.

We both wish to see each other take up space, step into our purpose, and create the impact and legacy that we each yearn for.

And yes, we spend a lot of time talking about what this means for each of us. How we individually and together define purpose, impact and legacy.

It’s a constant process of communication, compromise and recalibration. It takes work and attention.

But knowing that I have Dan’s unequivocal support, and he has mine – it makes everything else possible.

What is your best relationship advice? I’d love to hear!

Two things can be true at the same time.

I can resist the violence and destruction being carried out by our government right now
AND
I can dare to imagine a future where every person has enough to take care of themselves and live a life with dignity.

I can shout NO KINGS! at the top of my lungs
AND
March with a smile on my face.

I am not only one way, one version of myself. Neither are you.

We must speak out against oppression, suppression, and cowardly, reckless self-interest disguised as governance.

And we must join together in community. We must laugh, find hope, share recipes and good news. That’s because –

** The greatest form of resistance is living a life that’s authentically yours.**

Standing up for what you believe in, taking actions that align with your values, and designing a career and life that you love is POWERFUL.

Powerful for you and the life you’re creating. And also powerful for others to witness, to take in, and to be inspired by.

So today, don’t shrink away from the pieces of you that feel messy. Don’t worry about showing up one way or another.

Let your authenticity be your North Star. Embrace your duality. Allow yourself to be all the things.

And, please, call your Reps (202) 224-3121 and tell them to vote No on the Big Ugly Bill.

If I could give advice to my younger self, it would be this:

Nothing important has ever happened without imagination.

Whether you’re scaling mountains, starting businesses, or rebuilding democracies – it all begins with vision.

It all begins with saying, “If I could wave a magic wand…”

I used to think using my imagination was self-indulgent. Aren’t there more urgent, important, GROWN UP things to be tending to?

What I know now is it’s a yes/and.

Yes, there are crises that demand our attention (collectively and personally).
Yes, there are responsibilities and obligations we must meet.

AND – the spirit and act of imagination is what leads us to solutions that actually work.

Solutions that are innovative, human-centered, values-led, and sustainable.

What’s your relationship with your imagination these days? If your imagination had a motto or mantra, what would it say? I’m curious to hear from you!
