The Iron Horse Trail in Contra Costa goes from near Concord airfield down to Livermore. It’s wide and fully paved. Mostly running on old railway right-of-way, it passes through residential areas, along a creek, behind schools and parks and behind a shopping mall. There are some stops when crossing residential roads and a couple of necessary busy street crossings. It’s a flat and peaceful ride. It’s easily accessible from various places along its length. It was great towing my beloved Paris in her trailer when she was still alive.
Iron Horse Regional Trail
This multi-use, whole-access trail between the cities of Concord and Pleasanton follows the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way established in 1891 and abandoned in 1978.

Did the 5 mi one way Bay Trail with my buddy in the pet trailer. We started at the Rosie the Riveter museum and turned around at Central Ave. This is a nice paved and dedicated path for pedestrians and bikes. It goes along the scenic waterfront and hasn’t been crowded at all during any rides. There are a number of grassy parks along the way to stop for a picnic or to let kids play, some with restrooms. We started at the Rosie museum parking lot which has free parking. Look for the Bay Trail spaces along the waterfront part of the lot.

I have a nice low vehicle traffic ride on combination paved roadways/paved bicycle lanes ride from San Marin Drive in Novato to Petaluma, about 16 miles round trip.
It’s a great ride for my wife and I with me towing our furry Princess in chauffeured luxury.
Let me know if you’re interested in the details or wish to setup a group ride some time!
