Richmond keeps reminding me why I love this place... And at the heart is community. π€
I went to one event. Saw these two. Then an hour or so later... pulled up to a completely different event. And there they were again. π
I love when my communities collide. BLCK Street folks showing up at MBL. MBL members at InUnison. InUnison women in NAWBO circles. NAWBO members over at HQ. It's not a coincidence, it's the culture here.
And here's what I've learned: seeing familiar faces in new rooms doesn't mean I'm just running in the same circles and only connecting with the same people. It means I've found my people, we're all moving with intention, growing in a variety of spaces.
That's the heart of my Abuntu principle, Assemble Your Crew.
It's not just about who you know. It's about cultivating community that is loving, supportive, and affirming.
Community that cheers you on, challenges your thinking, holds you accountable, opens doors you didn't even know existed, and helps you dream bigger than you thought possible.
β¨ Your crew doesn't just sustain you. They expand you. β¨
Shoutout to these two. I'm grateful our paths keep crossing. ππΎ

Our affirmation for the week is...
I choose progress over perfection.
This is an especially good one for me right now. This week has included just enough mini disruptions to my schedule which have impacted how much I've been able to get done. π
I try to negotiate with myself creative ways to squeeze more work time in, KNOWING it's not gonna happen.
So at the end of the day, I have to remind myself that I did my best and I at least made progress.
I also realize that I'm waiting for the perfect conditions to do some things, but at this time, I need to move forward with 'good enough'. And that's going to require me adjusting a few expectations.
So this morning, I'm choosing progress over perfection. Not sitting in "I wish I could have," or "If only," land, but instead choosing:
β¨ Steady action, assessment, and adjustment.
β¨ Navigating setbacks with hope and possibility.
β¨ Replacing disappointment with the celebration of small wins.
This is one of the principles I come back to again and again in my own Abuntu framework; Activate Your Plan.
Not the perfect plan. Not the fully-formed, all-conditions-met plan. The one that's good enough to move you forward today.
That small step? That's the activation.

Mahogany put on her Observation Binoculars and we went looking for worms in the rain. πππ
Everything is a lesson when you're me, so of course there's a whole coaching moment in here, about slow movement, staying deliberate, and trusting the quiet seasons.
New newsletter is up and it's for anyone wondering if anything is actually happening in their slow season.

This week's affirmation is, "I embody hope and creativity."
This affirmation is encouraging us to see possibilities over impossibilities. To see a way through, instead of only seeing the barriers.
Hope and creativity are not about ignoring our denying the challenges we face. Rather, they empower us to get unstuck with renewed energy.
π€ Where have you been stuck in problem-focused thinking instead of possibility thinking?
π‘ What creative approach to a current challenge haven't you tried yet? Brainstorm the unconventional. The weirder the better. Get out of your routine and find possibility in the unexpected.

This week's card is your gentle nudge to shift from "I don't see a way out" to "I haven't tried that yet."
If you want a physical reminder sitting on your desk, in your bag, or being passed around your team, the Abuntu Affirmation Card Deck is 60 cards of exactly this kind of grounded, practical encouragement.

Marketing panel takeaways ποΈ
I attended two marketing panels within a week of each other and walked away with lots of notes. A few insights from NAWBO Richmond's Marketing Mastermind and InUnison's Marketing 101: .rva
βοΈ Know your customer: where they are, what moves them. Let that be your guide, not just what everyone says you "should" do.
βοΈ Invest in support where you can. Your time and energy belong in your zone of genius. Let someone else handle what isn't.
βοΈ Get on camera. Your community wants to know the person behind the brand. Trust is built through presence.
βοΈ Experiment with your content. Post schedules, monthly themes, carousels... there's no one right way. Find what works for you and release what doesn't.
βοΈ Look at your data. Be strategic, not just reactive. And remember that marketing lives beyond social media. People are taking breaks from these apps. Is your strategy diverse enough to reach them anyway?
Also grateful for a Little One that can color, read Fly Guy (she tried to read it aloud during the panel lol π€¦πΎ), and watch her videos (mostly on silent π) while Mommy elevated her marketing practices.
Two communities. 10 dynamic women business owners. One very busy toddler. All good things. ππΎ

The forecast says rain this Saturday. But we're still showing up. βπ
Some of the best moments happen when we choose to be present anyway.
π
This Saturday, May 23 | 10β11am at HQ
The Community Gratitude Stroll is ON.
βοΈ If it's clear: we stroll, we reflect, we breathe.
π§οΈ If it rains: we gather inside HQ for a gratitude circle. Still meaningful, still restorative, still worth it.
π«ΆπΎ This month, we have a special treat: our featured wellness practitioner from will be there to offer a restorative experience during our optional gathering time. This is the kind of thing your nervous system will thank you for.
No networking pressure. No perfect conditions required. Just community, gratitude, and space to pause.
π HQ (Headquarters RVA): 3104 Semmes Ave, Richmond, VA

Monday reminder: you don't have to have it all together.
You just have to show up. Laugh at yourself a little. Find the joy in the mess. That's the practice.
Start where you are. Even if that's in a pile of rocks. π
(Over here celebrating life moments with friends, in nature, surrounded by laughter and love. Life is good.)

A few months ago, my church gave out tomato seeds to go with the sermon "It Takes Time."
I took them home...and sat them on my kitchen counter. π¬
And then⦠they continued to sit. Life was full. The season was heavy at times. When I planted, I wanted it to mean something, not just another task squeezed into a full day.
Last week, the time finally felt right. Sun out, nowhere to rush, the whole family in the garden. This week, every single one sprouted. π±ππΎ
Nature is a constant teacher: seeds carry everything they need inside them. They don't wait for the perfect moment, they wait for the right conditions. Soil. Water. Sun. Even after 6+ months, when the environment was ready, they didn't hesitate. They just grew.
James 1:2-4 was attached to those seeds: The testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect effect.
These sprouts reminded me that I carry everything I need inside of me too. My growth isn't dependent on the perfect moment. I grow in the right conditions, which can be messy like dirt and slightly overwhelming like poured water. And when messy and overwhelm are met with love, community, gratitude, and faith βοΈππΎ, my sprouts emerge.
I've been in a season of Surrender with a capital S. Challenging? Yes. But each week I feel clearer, stronger, more grounded. Endurance.
What "perfect effect" is endurance having on you in this season? ππΎ
