Young DBs need THIS footwork. 👀

For us, development comes before the playbook.

We’ve been training for almost a month, and we haven’t installed one play from our playbook yet.

That’s intentional.

It’s easy to jump straight to the meat and potatoes. Installing plays is fun. Running an offense is fun. Scoring touchdowns is fun.

But none of it matters if your athletes can’t move, catch, throw, pull flags, understand leverage, create separation, defend space, and understand the game.

We’re building football players first.

Footwork.
Technique.
Fundamentals.
Football IQ.
Confidence.
Repetition.

The playbook will come.

Because running plays is fun… but winning is a lot more fun.

And the teams that consistently win are usually the teams that do the little things better.

We don’t train just to participate. We train to develop. We train to compete. We train to WIN. 🐎🏈

Coach Mykel asked the girls one question at practice…

“Anybody in here like roaches?” 🪳🤢

Not ONE hand went up. 😂

So the lesson was simple: when you get to the top of that route, STOMP THE ROACH. 😤💥

Violent plant.
Sharp break.
No wasted steps.
Get in and get OUT.

Sometimes the best coaching cues are the ones athletes can instantly understand — and they definitely understood this one. 😂

Big thanks again to Coach Mykel for coming out and pouring into our girls. We’re not just running routes — we’re teaching them how to run them with purpose.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Coach Mykel from Houston Christian High School and Overly Dedicated Training Facility out to work with our Lady Colts! 🏈🔥

Coach Mykel spent the evening putting our girls through drills, coaching them through the details, and helping them continue to develop their game.

We truly appreciate him taking time out of his Sunday—especially on a warm Texas evening—to pour into our athletes and support what we’re building.

Coach Mykel, thank you for investing in our girls. You’re welcome back anytime! 💪🏽🏈

Defense isn’t just about speed—it’s about taking the right angle. 🎯🏈

Today we worked on pursuit angles, teaching our athletes how to cut off the ball carrier, close space and put themselves in position to make the flag pull.

Our 12U girls have been PUTTING IN WORK preparing for the upcoming fall season. 🏈💪🏽

We switched things up at the end of practice. Instead of finishing with the usual conditioning runs, we turned conditioning into competition with a game I call “Hop & Back.”

Don’t let the word “game” fool you 😂 Two sets in and they were WINDED.

Conditioning doesn’t always have to look like running lines. Get them competing, moving, laughing, and working without taking the intensity out of it.

Work hard. Compete. Have fun. Get better.

We’re not looking for perfect athletes. We’re looking for players who are willing to be coached, compete every rep, and put the team first.

This is what we do. The standard doesn’t change because it’s tryout day.
