Abilities Indiana was founded on the belief that every person has dignity, value, and the right to be treated with respect.

We have recently become aware of public online comments using degrading language toward people with disabilities. We want to be very clear: language such as “retard” or “retarded” is harmful, unacceptable, and completely contrary to who we are and what we stand for.

Abilities Indiana does not tolerate hate speech, harassment, threats, or language that demeans people with disabilities.

Anyone whose conduct is inconsistent with our mission, values, and expectations will not be permitted to represent, volunteer with, or participate in Abilities Indiana activities.

Our focus remains on protecting the dignity and safety of the individuals we serve, supporting their families, and continuing the work of building a community where people with disabilities are respected, included, and valued.

We ask our community to join us in choosing words and actions that reflect compassion, dignity, and respect.

Belonging isn’t something people should have to search for, it should be something they can count on. At Abilities, we’re building a community where differences are embraced, strengths are celebrated, and every person is respected for exactly who they are.

With nearly 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. living with a disability, the need for inclusive and supportive spaces have never been clearer.

Abilities is so grateful for a team that truly cares about the wellbeing of the individuals we serve. Today, we are proud to shine the spotlight on our amazing Lead Teacher, Regina Mann!

Regina has been a vital part of the Abilities family for 16 years! Starting out in an entry-level role, her understanding of our mission gave her the hope and inspiration to pursue her current leadership role.

"I am so grateful to be a part of some wonderful people here at Abilities," Regina said. "Our individuals that I have the privilege to work with are amazing. To me, they have the right to shine to find their own opportunities to grow. The Abilities mission resonates with me because I believe every individual deserves a chance to show their abilities and to cultivate a place of belonging."

When asked to choose the words that best describe Abilities, Regina chose inclusive, guidance, and respect.

Regina, thank you for your outstanding dedication, your leadership, and the beautiful impact you make in our community every single day. We are so lucky to have you on our team!

Twas the night before opening, excitement in the air,

Guess what?! Our Muncie location will be holding an open house tomorrow, 9am-4pm, to welcome all new individuals, families, providers, and anyone who is curious to learn about us!

Being there for others can be challenging, especially when life feels overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it on your own. Abilities creates a welcoming environment where individuals are recognized, supported, and truly listened to.

Strength Through Support is a monthly gathering designed for parents, guardians, and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m, location may vary.

Every path looks a little different, but having a community beside you can make a meaningful impact. If you’re seeking connection and encouragement, consider joining us for the next meeting on June 3!
