Balance comes from three basic inputs: proprioception, the vestibular system, and vision. As we age, we often get less active, impairing our proprioception and leaving us less mobile as a result. Understandably, we become more concerned about the risk of falling. There is then a natural tendency to become more reliant on vision for our balance, watching our every step so as to avoid falling. Meanwhile, our vision steadily declines, ironically INCREASING our fall risk. Thus, it's wise to continue training the other two components so you have something to fall back on... so to speak.
It works.
