It is so hard to believe this has been 23 years since they were all lost in the storm. Hurricanes like Helene and Milton bring all those awful memories back. Nothing can prepare you for having to share that awful news to loved ones as the names trickled in one by one. Their grief and the not knowing for days was unfathomable. The loss of one parent is hard, but to lose both is crushing. When I think of all they missed… watching their children grow to become adults, marriages, welcoming grand babies and so, so much more… it is still overwhelming. I think of our lost friends often, especially every time I get to slip below the surface into God greatest creation. They died in a freak accident while pursuing their passion for diving. God, you do know I still want to know why! But we’ll continue to chat about that and I know that one day I’ll understand. Through all the grief and sorrow there was also so much love and support that sustained us. Thank you again to my family that stepped up after one phone call where all I had to say was “take the kids”. No questions were asked - they just took over so Jim and I could devote our round the clock time to their families and our loving dive community. There are events in our lives that change us forever. That day changed me! You are remembered and I will never forget….
