LAST CHANCE FOR SHOW SHIRTS
The MCHS Madison Central High School Marching Band spirit wear store is open, but not for long — orders close August 19th.
Order here:
https://first-gear.printavo.com/merch/mchsbandstore2026
Show shirts will be distributed at the Community Show, so you’ll have them in time to wear and support the band.
Reminder: Each Guard member and each Musician receives ONE short sleeve show t-shirt as part of their fees.
This online store is your chance to:
- Grab extra shirts for your student (because one is never enough during marching season)
- Order shirts for family and fans who don’t want to be “the only ones” without one
- Pick up additional spirit wear for the season
- Support the program — the band receives a portion of each shirt sold
Once the store closes on August 19th, we will not be able to accept late orders.
If you’ve been “meaning to get around to it,” this is your sign. Please place your order soon and help spread the word by sharing this post.

Booster meeting tonight at 7. Moved to cafeteria
’Twas the Day Before School Starts
’Twas the day before school starts, and all through the band,
Not a marcher was resting — that wasn’t the plan.
Three weeks of band camp had come to an end,
And tomorrow, after school… they’d do it again.
Their water jugs waited, their sunscreen ran low,
Their dot cards were battered from learning the show.
Their shoes had seen better days, that much was clear,
And everyone wondered, “How is school already here?”
The flutes had survived with their arms in the air,
Though by week number three, they’d stopped saying it’s fair.
The clarinets marched with their reeds packed away,
Praying none of them cracked before Saturday.
The bass clarinet followed, majestic and low,
With an instrument longer than arms ought to go.
The saxes stood ready, both alto and tenor,
Providing the soundtrack for questionable endeavors.
Then bari sax entered, enormous and deep,
An instrument clearly not designed to be cheap.
It hung from their shoulders, a brass-colored beast,
Getting heavier somehow with each passing beat.
The trumpets played louder — as trumpets will do —
Because why play at forte when fortissimo will do?
The mellophones lifted their bells to the sky,
While silently asking their shoulders, “But why?”
The trombones kept marching, with slides under care,
Because one wrong direction means someone loses hair.
The euphoniums carried their horns without fear,
Though their left arms had aged about forty-five years.
And somewhere the sousas stood noble and proud,
Sweating through shirts while playing VERY LOUD.
Low brass and low reeds made the whole field resound,
With notes deep enough to shake buildings around.
Then out from the drumline arose such a clatter,
Everyone turned to see what was the matter.
The snares kept on tapping, the tenors did too,
While the bass drums reminded us, “We’re walking through YOU.”
In front ensemble, mallets flew through the air,
With keyboards and cymbals and equipment everywhere.
They may not march drill from one set to the next,
But try moving their gear and you’ll learn some respect.
The color guard spun with their flags flashing bright,
Tossing rifles and sabres to dangerous heights.
They smiled through the heat like it all was a breeze,
While everyone else prayed, “Don’t drop that on me.”
With silks whipping fast and choreography clean,
They somehow made marching look graceful and keen.
While brass fought for breath and the drumline made sound,
The guard threw things skyward… then caught them somehow.
The drum major stood watching with confidence strong,
Calling, “ONE MORE TIME!” when they all knew that was wrong.
Because “one more” means three, maybe four, possibly eight,
And somehow rehearsal is already running late.
They’d marched through the heat and the blazing July,
With sweat in their faces and sun in their eyes.
They’d learned all their music, their dots and their sets,
And made the kind of friendships they’ll never forget.
So now came the evening before school began,
With backpacks and pencils replacing band plans.
They dreamed of classrooms, assignments, and bells —
And waking up early, which sounded like hell.
But school starting meant something the band understood:
Football games, competitions, and shows getting good.
The season was coming. The stands would soon roar.
And every rehearsal would sharpen them more.
So enjoy your last evening. Get plenty of sleep.
Tomorrow those school-day alarms start to beep.
You’ve survived three weeks of band camp — you’ll be okay…
Just remember: you have marching band practice after school on the very first day.
Happy first day of school to the marching band crew.
May your teachers give no homework…
and your director say, “That’ll do.”

Yes, we’re that group… having a Booster Meeting on the very first day of school.
