Meet the designer and creator of this year's Richmond Parks & Recreation Geocaching GeoTrail Souvenir for RPGT3 Passport Completion - Kevin Hansford (aka: DK1312 Geocaching username).

We're thrilled to have an individual who's a KY native, and has been so engaged with Geocaching events for over a decade in Madison County, use his creative Artisan talents to design the souvenir for this year's "Cultural Roots" theme.

Brave souls faced the pouring rain to support today's CITO (Cache In, Trash Out) hosted by ag9392 at Lake Reba. Now we're off to do a trash pick up in and around Richmond and clean up our playground (earth) before heading home. The last 3 geocaches of the weekend have officially posted.

We have an Honorary Mayor for the Day - meet Michael - a young Geocacher enjoying night time Geocaching in Richmond KY tonight. He and his family were pleasantly surprised when the City of Richmond KY Mayor, Robert Blythe, made a surprise visit to a night time Geocache location to welcome Geocachers to Richmond KY.

Thank you Mayor Blythe for supporting Geocaching in Richmond KY, and to Richmond Parks & Recreation for putting in the hard to work to ensure it's an adventurous and exciting event for all to enjoy.

Another amazing event and a great crowd tonight!!! We had the opportunity to learn about a variety of exciting events beyond local events like ours (examples: GeoWoodstock in Kansas for 2026, attending events in foreign countries, and the Geocaching International Film Festival Events).

Tomorrow is our final event - CITO (Cache In, Trash Out) at the Lake Reba boat ramp parking lot from 8:30-9:30am. Don't miss the opportunity to see everyone before they head back to their home states.

Great turnout this morning! So exciting to see Geocachers from 7 different states (KY, IN, OH, TN, WV, AL, UT) attend this morning.

REMINDER: Those who attend the events get the "cheat sheet" at the conclusion of the event (gives them a headstart before the Official Launch of the Permanent Geocache on Geocaching.com). Passports & Souvenirs for the GeoTrail will be available this weekend.

ALSO, last year's 2024-2025 GeoTrail (RPGT2) caches will remain in place through October 31st if you wish to complete it and earn that souvenir.

Thanks to DK1312 Kevin Hansford for being the designer and creator of this year's souvenir - the Park's theme is "Cultural Roots" and there's no better way to celebrate "roots" than having one of our own geocachers personally create this year's souvenir. Kevin has been involved with the Geocaching Events in Madison County since they began over a decade ago in Berea, KY.

It's a great time to log geocaches, earn digital and physical souvenirs, be an outdoor adventurer in our gorgeous region of KY, and make lifelong friendships!

The T-shirts are in!!! Thanks First Gear for printing our glow-in-the-dark custom T's.

Those who pre-registered and attend in person qualify for their free T. A limited quantity will be available for a $15 donation per shirt to the Madison County Special Olympics (an organization we love to support).

Who's excited for Richmond Parks & Recreation 3rd Annual Geocaching Weekend?????? This year's theme is "Cultural Roots" so get packed and get ready for a weekend of fun and friends.

All caches are in place AND we've even added 3 night caches (launch Friday night - bring a high powered flashlight) + 3 CITO caches (launch Sunday).

Here's a sneak peek at this year's custom t-shirt design. (Thanks First Gear for your loyal dedication to printing glow-in-the-dark T's for our Geocaching events). Those who pre-registered by the deadline will receive their T at the event. (YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO QUALIFY FOR A FREE T.)

(If you didn't pre-register, there will be a limited number of T's available for a $15 donation per shirt to support Madison County Special Olympics, a program we love to support.)

The 2024-2025 geocaches (RPGT2) will remain in place through October 31st, so if you didn't complete last year's, or your new to this event and want to participate, you still have time and can access the Passport here:

Book your hotel rooms, AirBnB's, campground sites, or couch surf with a friend/family member. Wear layers, pack your snacks, and bring your TOTT's (tools of the trade - pen, tweezers, flashlight, etc). This is a rain or shine event, so come prepared to have some outdoor fun!
