Not the way we wanted it to end but sometimes you just get beat, and that’s baseball. Congratulations to Tilden, they earned it. Win or lose the final game it always feels bittersweet. No more looking forward to Wednesday night games at the bank in front of the people in the community who’ve supported us for years. College guys go back to college, old guys go back to work, and weekends become empty. I want all of our Fish fans to know that we love and appreciate you all. It can’t be done without you.
With a 9-1 loss in the WBA State Championship at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield, your Fighting Fish end 37-6. Instead of moping around and feeling bad for ourselves, I’d like to go over the cool things that happened this season:
May 16th: Eli Condon and Kyle Fritz combine for a no-hitter in New Richmond!
May 25th: Fish defeat Hudson 7-0 to win the Plum City Tournament Championship!
May 27th: Fish earn the 500th win in franchise history after a 4-1 victory in Red Wing!
June 5th: After giving up 12 runs and getting down by 8 in the top of the 7th against Stockmen’s Irish, Fish rally back to win 15-13 including a 2-run shot by Chase McQuade to take the lead in the 8th and two ejections!
June 20th: After making a game-saving catch just 3 days before, Brian Giebel makes another game-saving catch! This time in Prescott with the tying run on 2nd and the winning run on 1st. Giebel preserves the win for the Fish and Kyle Fritz’s complete game win on the mound!
June 26th: Andy Metcalf goes 4-4 with 3 homers, 5 runs scored, and 7 runs batted in as the Fish win 26-0 in Ellsworth!
July 15th: A wild week of 5 games starting with Fox 9’s Town Ball Tour! A 8-5 win vs Hudson in front of a crowd of 2,000 people!
July 16th, 18th, and 19th: We were invited to the Charlie Larca Invitational Tournament in Jordan, Minnesota. We ended up 2-1 and were impressed by how awesome of a field they have there. Definitely check it out if you ever get the chance. Beano McQuade also made his pitching debut for the Fish there and went the entire game allowing no runs, 1 hit, and striking out 5 batters!
July 22nd: Down 8-6 in the 9th with 2 outs, 3 straight doubles are hit to comeback and win the game! Chad Patko doubles in Brian Giebel, Luedtke doubles in Patko, and Chase McQuade doubles in Luedtke!
July 25th: Fish complete the undefeated league season with a win in Spring Valley! Austin Curti, Andy Metcalf, and Trey Larson all go yard!
July 29th: 2nd Annual Fish Sticks game was a blast! Such a fun night with a great crowd!
August 9th: Fish punch their ticket to the WBA Finals. Lucas Luedtke hits a homer to tie the single-season team record for home runs then Eli Baker breaks the record 5 batters later!
Another summer of memories that will be cherished forever. Until next time, Fish fans.
