Meet our rules chairman and captain of Reckless Driving, Genesis Cortez.

His story is of how he started playing golf is spectacularly interesting.

"My first golf outing was a forced event when I had to attend my best friend's bachelor party. I always thought golf was boring and stupid, but on that day, I got hooked. Fast forward 7 years later, I've taken several lessons, turned my wife into a dedicated golfer, worked at Golf Galaxy, started and shut down my own club repair company, and become the SCIGL's Handicap & Rules Chairman. As with most things, I've discovered that golf is more about the journey and who you travel with than it is about the end result. But if that end result is a lower handicap, longer drive, or championships, all the better.” - Genesis Cortez

Let me introduce you to our first team captain, David Ellerman. David is the captain of Copy Cats where his wife, Mary, plays a huge part of his team as well.

“I have been playing golf for over 25 years and finally realized that it isn't about the game, it's the journey. My late father in law is the one that truly got my love of golf burning. I love playing a casual game with friends and family as much as I love playing competitively. I have been involved with SCIGL for close to 10 years and a Captain for most of those years. I recently took on the position of VP and look forward to growing this league for many years to come.” - David Ellerman

Meet our Treasurer, Del Parga. Del has been a part of the SCIGL for 18 years. He became the President of the league in 2013, stepped down in 2021, and currently holds the Treasurer position for the League. He has been playing golf for 30 years and has enjoyed this game through the years.

He works in the HVAC industry and has been doing that for 45 years. He hopes to retire in a few years and play more golf.

You can come to say hi to him at our monthly league. The next one will be on Saturday November 19 at Royal Vista Golf Club.

Meet our SCIGL President, Danny Martinez. Here’s his story and how he started his golf journey with SCIGL.

“I have been playing with Southern California Industrial Golf League since 2014. As a member of the team Breaking Par we hoisted the championship cup 2016. In 2017 I became the captain of team Sodbusters and took my team all the way to the championship match. Last year I was voted in as league president with the goal of encouraging more competition and increasing the number of players both men and women of all levels of experience.
Since I have recently retired, I’ve been focus on spending time with my family, traveling and play golf.
I look forward to seeing all of you out on the greens.” - Danny Maritnez, President of Southern California Industrial Golf League

Fun fact daily: Golf is one of the two only sports to be played on the moon. On February 6, 1971 Alan Bartlett “Al” Shepard, Jr. performed a one-handed swing with a six-iron, sending the ball flying through the moon’s low-gravity atmosphere. And in case you were wondering, javelin is the other sport that was reportedly played on the moon.
