After locating the herd at first light, a few bulls split off and started working into the junipers. I watched and waited for the bulls to get into a position that had better wind. Once they got into position, I started the stalk.

I snuck in to roughly 200yds of the bulls while they fed, waiting for the opportunity to move closer for a shot.

Now being roughly 150yds from the bulls, I put my GULO OUTDOORS stalkers on to make the final move.

The bulls crested a small ridge and I crept over the top. The bigger 6 point was feeding at 20 yards slightly quartering away. I drew back and settled my 20 yard pin. As I let the arrow go, I watched it connect right where I wanted it.

The 60 yard blood trail was easy to follow.

As he lay, roughly 60 yards from the shot.

“I have an archery hunt around the corner at 10k plus and have a super lightweight setup I’m trying with just a Sherman pocket on my frame. I have my system down to 9-10 lbs including spotting glass. I will try packing camp in using my large stuff bag compressed to the frame and overlap the Sherman. I have about a 4-5 mile pack-in to my camp spot and then strike camp and move fast with just the Sherman. I’m not packing any water just filter flask. I have had some incredible results with just the Sherman the last year or so.
 
Being over 40 now, I gotta hunt smarter not harder and use experience to optimize setup. That’s what makes Kifaru special...is the versatility of the gear. I have been using it about 7 years now. And I can configure it for sniper rifles, shed hunting, archery, ranch work, you name it. I was a [competitor] pack guy, but the equipment didn’t offer flexibility for my lifestyle. Everything was extremely ultralight purpose built and was confined to that application. So, when I made the shift, it required a lot of collecting of accessories. But now I can do anything necessary on demand.”
 
After the hunt, he let us know that he packed the entire b***d out buck 8 miles with that setup! “Not like I was 500 yds from the truck. It was as secure as anything I have ever loaded.”
