Referee shortage could impact high school football games in Southwest Virginia The Western Virginia Football Officials Association is about 40 referees short for the upcoming season.

Quick reminder, 2024 Kickoff Picnic is tomorrow, July 29th Longwood Park, Salem - Starts at 6:00 and food will be provided.

Hello fellow officials,
Just a reminder that we need more officials. If you can post, tweet or Instagram open invitations on your social media it would be greatly appreciated. Our kickoff cookout is at the end of the month so now would be a great time to push recruiting. If they aren't sure, have them come to the cookout and meet the group.

As always, thank you for you hard work and I look forward to the upcoming season and being on the field with all of you.

Below are our scheduled meeting dates for the upcoming 2024 football season. Please put them on your calendar and plan to attend.

Association kick-off picnic (ALL OFFICIALS) - 7/29/24 @ Longwood Park in Salem - 6PM
1st and 2nd year officials orientation - 7/31/24 at 6PM Brambleton Center
1st and 2nd year officials on-field session - 8/7/24 at 6PM Spartan Field
WVFOA pre-season meeting (ALL OFFICIALS) - 8/12/24 at 7PM HVMS
1st Assignment meeting - 8/25/24 at 2PM location TBD

Assignment meetings will follow three week intervals on Sunday afternoons around 2 PM.

If you know someone interested in joining the association please let us know.

If you didn't know, Coach Beale has retired from his position as head football coach at Floyd County High School. His coaching career spanned 50 years which is quite the accomplishment in today's time.
