Rochester Triathlon

Greetings Athletes,

We hope this note finds you all safe and healthy. As the summer rapidly approaches, the time has come to face our unfortunate reality regarding the Rochester Triathlon 2020 edition.

As a race committee, we put a lot of time into trying to figure out a way to hold the race this year. It was to be our 10th edition of the race, and we were really looking forward to a special event with some really cool new unique race swag and some other cool stuff to celebrate. We will still be doing all of that, just a year late.

Our reasons for coming to this difficult decision are many - we need permits from Monroe County Parks, the Town of Irondequoit, and the City of Rochester (among others). The City and Town are not even considering permits for large public gatherings until after our race date. Additionally, in order to hold a safe event for our athletes, we need over 100 volunteers and USAT sanctioning. Gathering that many volunteers in this environment would have been a tall order. And USAT, who, like us, are very concerned with athlete safety, has introduced some new policies and procedures for races (which we agree with) that would have significantly increased the workload on our already overworked volunteer race committee.

Due to this unprecedented situation, we have decided to offer athletes who already registered for the 2020 event a choice between a refund and deferral to the 2021 event. Also, any athletes who were eligible for a deferral from last year can defer to 2021. The refund offer applies only to people with paid registrations for 2020.

Thanks for all of your support over the years. The support of so many amazing athletes and sponsors over the years has made our event one of the longest running and most successful triathlons in the area. Once again, please stay safe, keep training, and we hope to see you in 2021 for the 10th edition of the Rochester Triathlon!

We have Olympic and Sprint distances in triathlon, aquabike, and duathlon!

This year we are also part of the Score This! Multisport Series.

Great job to everyone today! Despite the swim being cancelled due to rough waters and you all pushing through the added run, everyone did amazing.

Note the "swim" is your first run split!

It would appear that some athletes might not have received the letter via email from us. If you received your registration confirmation/receipt when you signed up you should be all set and registered, but we can certainly confirm if you need some peace of mind.

Here is the letter sent out:

"2019 Athletes, please carefully review the attached document. It contains answers to many of your questions about how our awesome race day progresses. The weather looks awesome! The lake has "turned over" and the water is quite cool right now, hopefully it will warm up a little by race morning. If lake conditions are deemed unsafe for athletes, we will have contingency plans in place to either shorten the swim or replace it with a short run. See you on race morning!

Rochester Triathlon

Volunteering for the Roc Tri and Du is a great way to see family and friends on the course during the event and cheer on other participants! The race is on Saturday August 24th at Durand Eastman Park.

Public swimming is currently restricted at Durand Beach where our race takes place, however our event is excluded from this restriction at this time. Currently, our race remains unaffected. If this happens to change we will certainly inform everyone via our website
