This is what I try to do - help you feel better in your body, mind and spirit
I like doing poses in beautiful places (here I'm up on the High line in NYC.)
It's fun. Particularly when I'm traveling with my family.
But you'll never see me whip out any insane hypermobile nonsense.

Thing is, sh like that messes up my body.
And it's not normal.
Hypermobility is a disorder and hypermobile poses are a demonstration of joint instability.

And, just an awareness for you yungins' insisting on continuing this practice, you most likely are gonna have pain in a few years - if you don't already.

Yoga teachers on IG posting hypermobile poses are not teaching anything terribly valuable or accessible.
Sure, it's art and art is beautiful.

and body artists like Cirque du Soliel acrobats often sacrifice their bodies for the sake of their art.

But, if you think that you won't make it as a yoga teacher without that kind of IG account...
I'm here to tell you that is a grand illusion.

There are many ways to be successful teaching yoga.
Start by caring about the safety of your students.
Relinquish the idea that more mobility is good, is better, is healthy, or is even attainable.

Be relatable.
Be human.
Help people have healthier nervous systems and less low back pain.

Teach safe, sustainable yoga.
Teach for the long haul.
Teach for life.

Hey! Yoga classes are back at Northgate tomorrow! I will be gentle. Maybe some focus on breath and intentions as we shake the dust off from our break and greet the New Year!
My Monday and Friday classes are as usual, but we are switching it up a bit and Mona will teach Pilates in my Wednesday spot ( but I will cover the class the next 2 weeks), and I will move to a Thursday at 9:30 spot. I hope you enjoy the program change, and can move with me to Thursdays!

So, looks like yoga is still on a break until the new year. I will work up some New Year sequences for us to kick off 2021. Until then, stay safe, wear a mask, and try some online yoga, or just get your mats out and move and stretch as your body tells you.
Northgate Health Club will reopen at 6:00am on Saturday, December 19, 2020!๐
