I'll be at the Henrietta library tonight talking about Irish dance history and the 3 styles of Irish stepdancing! ☘️
The Monroe County Irish organizations are excited to bring another hour and a half of a variety of authentic Irish entertainment tonight in the Henrietta Library. Known in Ireland as a Siamsa (Shee-am-sah), it includes traditional cultural music, dancing, and historical stories. Please join us in commemorating the city of Rochester’s and county of Monroe’s declaration of Irish American Heritage Month while enjoying some traditional soda bread.
7:00-6:15 pm Soda Bread Making Demonstration- LAOH member Sandy Foley. A traditional loaf of Irish
soda bread will be assembled and baked so you can learn to make your own.
7:15-7:45 Traditional Irish Music Session- Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (Irish Musician Association).
Several members of the music organization will play some traditional Irish music.
7:45-8:15 Historical Presentation- AOH members Bob Lann and Russ Conlon. Irish history will be presented to enable a better understanding of Irish influence in the world with a unique infusion of singing.
8:15-8:30 Irish Step Dance Demonstration- Kathy Whitfield, owner and instructor at Rince Na Saor Irish Dancing will compare modern and traditional Irish step dancing called Sean Nós.
8:30 Conclusion of the program and soda bread tasting.

Coming up this Friday! Sean Nós ("shah-nose"), or "old style", is a more relaxed form of Irish stepdancing, with close-to-the-ground steps and an informal style. If you've ever tapped your feet to Irish music, you're already halfway there. (And you can use your arms!)

Samhain marks the Irish New Year. In keeping with the Samhain season, this will be a memorial céilí to honor those we've lost this past year. All proceeds will be donated to the Joe Dady Memorial Scholarship Fund.
