In support of our officials 👏
Fans continue to cross the line with outlandish, abusive behavior. When that happens, whose responsibility is it to address the problem?
It is not the officials’ job to remove fans. That responsibility belongs to game management.
Credit to this crew for handling a difficult situation the right way. It’s concerning how often athletic directors—especially at the high school level—hesitate to remove their own fans for belligerent behavior.
In most states, a sportsmanship code is read before most games for a reason. It sets expectations for everyone in the building. Officials should not be placed in a position where they feel they must handle fan behavior themselves—doing so can be unsafe and inappropriate.
Game management must step up, support the officials, and enforce the standards that are already in place.
