At BayCreek, we are all about these little barn swallows, and in the next life, we want to be one - except for the bug-eating part.

We'll stick to burnt hot dogs and cheap beer (inside joke).

There an old foundation of a small structure hidden along the wetland edge of Irondequoit Creek.

Most paddlers glide right past it. Thirty years ago, you could still see the remains of a little dock reaching into the water. Today, only a crumbling foundation remains. We call this place "The Mystery House".

Who lived in this beautiful location, we don't know.

The old maps don't tell much. One from 1923 shows the land, but no house. By 1935, the house appears... but the owner's name is gone.

So we like to imagine the story and what the resident would have seen, perhaps sitting at a small table and looking out the back window.

It's quiet over the marsh. The frogs trill, the geese honk and the worries of the day fade with the setting sun.

Nearly a century has passed, but one thing hasn't changed.

The creek still has that remarkable way of slowing the world down.
