QUESTION
There are 3 people at the skatepark
A ) a little kid
B ) the parent of that child
C ) an experienced rider
Who is best equipped to address the little kid’s lack of skatepark etiquette?
I hear it and see videos about it all the time…. Kids in the way at the skatepark. My videos have received literally hundred of comments saying things like “kids should never be at the skatepark” as if we were never once a kid at the skatepark ourselves.’
The social-infrastructure around action sports and skateparks still lacks mindful “on boarding” for new riders, little kids, and parents. Municipalities still build skatepark then do literally nothing to steward that  amenity.
Modern skatepark build quality has come a long way but, almost all modern public skateparks lack intelligent design. Nearly all user conflict could be mitigated through mindful design. Designers are not fully considering accessibility, sustainability, user conflict, or the diverse user groups who will use the facility.
If we truely want to grow skateboarding and action sports then we need better social infrastructure, better onboarding practices, more mindful designs, and a majority of riders genuinely caring about fostering the next generation and stewarding our public skateparks.
Shout out to all y’all who understand this and are actively building a brighter future for skatepark subculture.
