Metabolic Resistance Training at The FIT varies in format each day we offer it, but the intent is always the same- to challenge Work Capacity. Work Capacity is simply how much work can one complete in a given amount of time? If you are strong then you should complete more work than someone weaker. If you have great conditioning then you should complete more work than someone less conditioned. If your technique is on point and you move efficiently then you should complete more work than someone with poor technique and less efficiency. If you are strong, highly conditioned, movement-efficient, AND train with maximum intent then you will have amazingly high work capacity! Functional + Fit = High Work Capacity
The FIT
The FIT is a small-group centered fitness facility dedicated to helping people achieve their goals.
The FIT is the premier location for training fitness in Rockford, Illinois. If you are looking to get in shape, lose weight, gain strength, increase flexibility, develop better athleticism, or simply have more energy, then The FIT is the place for you.
Why Uncommon Strength Training? Because at The FIT we believe that exercise should be fun, challenging, engaging, and rewarding. Most people don’t realize this, but muscles are stupid. They are essentially slaves to the central nervous system and respond and adapt to mechanical and environmental load. Your leg muscles don’t care if you perform a squat, a lunge, or a step-up. They just need to be adequately loaded and challenged to produce a meaningful stimulus for adaptation. The “thing” that training should be prioritized around and directed towards is challenging your brain and nervous system. THAT is where the “magic” really happens. And, it is with that in mind that we program novel and meaningful exercise variations that challenge the nervous system AND the tissues of the body to work in better concert together. Our members who complete Uncommon Strength Training workouts can attest to how challenging and fun they are and can feel the positive impact it has on their overall performance and confidence.
Today we hosted SuperFIT #197 and it was a massive success! With 45 people in attendance we had to get creative in order to keep everyone engaged and still make the workout worthy of the standard we have at The FIT. So we programmed two separate Hub Circuits and then got to work! It is so much fun to be in a gym with everyone working hard and uplifting each other with their efforts, energy, and encouragement. This is big reason why we continue to host SuperFIT sessions, because it’s an opportunity to bring members together who don’t have the availability to get together during the weekdays. The FIT is about community and connection just as much as it is about fitness, strength, and conditioning. As the saying goes, “If you want to go fast then go alone, but if you want to go far then travel with others.” At The FIT we go “Further Together!”

There are so many rewarding moments being a trainer and coach. You get to meet great people and help them accomplish their goals, and you get to see their confidence and abilities grow through each training session. If they stay with you long enough you become friends and end up sharing the various highs and lows of life together.
Amy Gehrke started at The FIT in 2012 and has been a staple in the 5am training groups ever since. She brings enthusiasm and a zest for life that is contagious and gives everyone around her more energy. She is quick to laugh and knows how to get others to laugh too!
Today is Amy’s last day as a member at The FIT as she is moving to Tennessee. We are going to miss her dearly, but she will always be part of The FIT Family!

Join us this Saturday, August 1st at 9am for SuperFIT! The cost is $10/person at the door and all proceeds will go to benefit Luke Sorg as he continues to recover from a recent, traumatic bicycling accident. Luke Sorg is the father of Ian Sorg, one of The FIT's trainers. Let's show Ian and Luke how much we care and pack The FIT out for SuperFIT this Saturday!
“Kalos Motus” is Latin for “Beautiful Strength.” At The FIT we push our members to be strong, but also to be able to demonstrate their strength with efficiency and effectiveness. Real strength should look almost effortless and cause those watching to believe they can do it because it looks so easy.
“Motor Control” can be understood as the seamless integration of balance, coordination, and integrity during movement. It’s the ability to move and/or stabilize the correct joints at the correct time to the appropriate positions to facilitate efficient and effective movement. While every exercise demands a certain degree of Motor Control the purpose of Uncommon Strength Training is to push the demands of Motor Control towards the edges of one’s ability. These two exercises do just that, but in very different ways. The first exercise demands high degrees of balance and reflexive stabilization while the second exercise demands high threshold core activation while moving through a larger range of motion. And, these are only two of the six exercises programmed into The FIT’s Uncommon Strength Training sessions today!

Sometimes you need to push yourself well outside of your comfort zone to test your mettle. Sometimes you should challenge your fitness and test your capacities. I mean really challenge them. Get uncomfortable and stay there. Right in the middle of the “suck” and accept it.
Today was one of those opportunities as I and some other warriors from The FIT completed The FIT’s Independence Day “1776” Challenge. The challenge consists of 12 different strength-based exercises with the goal of completing a grand total of 1,776 reps. There is a hard-cap of 200 reps for all of the exercises and there are four levels to the challenge which you have to make a decision on at the beginning (“Easy,” “Moderate,” “Hard,” and “Elite/Captain America”). Then, once I completed the 1,776 reps I had to complete 1,776 meters on the SkiErg in under 8 minutes.
The entire challenge took me just under 3 hours to complete. My body is tired, but I’m glad I tested myself and finished. This challenge is one of the toughest physical things I have done. I’ve completed over 600 pull-ups in one day. I’ve completed over 60,000 meters between the RowErg and SkiErg in one day. I’ve pushed a sled with over 800lbs on it. I’ve rucked a 70lbs pack for 5+miles.
However, this isn’t about what I’ve done. It’s to encourage you, yes you, to start pushing yourself. Your body is an amazingly adaptive organism. I’m not made of anything more special than you are. The only difference is I show up and do the work. Again, and again, and again.
You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be the best. You just have to do. DO the thing that will make you be a little more of what you’ve dreamed you could be. DO the work to BE the person you desire to be.
It’s not sexy. It’s not necessarily fun. But DOING will bring you enjoyment and satisfaction. It will lead to better things and fulfilling experiences. You simply have to show up and do the work. For yourself. For those you care about. For the person you will become.
If you are ready to positively change your life, surround yourself with other great people who will challenge and support you to be better, and experience a gym that will make a lasting impact on your life and become like a family then come check out The FIT.
SuperFIT #196 was a hit! It never gets old watching members of The FIT come together to support local charities and to give back to our community in a meaningful way. The FIT is so much more than just a gym. It’s an intentional community of individuals who consistently work to make themselves better, those around them better, and their environments better.
