🎣 Are you ready to compete, represent, and grow with Hook'em an Book'em Bait and Tackle?

We’re building a serious, competitive fishing team and looking for dedicated anglers who want to represent our bait shop, sponsors, and fishing community both on and off the water.

We aren’t just looking for people who enjoy fishing. We’re looking for competitors who are committed to improving, competing, supporting the community, and helping grow the sport.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Team members should be willing to:

✅ Fish regularly and continue improving as an angler
✅ Compete in local and major tournaments
✅ Travel when opportunities are available
✅ Represent Hook'em an Book'em Bait and Tackle professionally
✅ Help host local tournaments and community events
✅ Participate in fishing expos, youth events, and promotional activities
✅ Support and promote the team, bait shop, sponsors, tournaments, and community programs
✅ Work as part of a team while maintaining excellent sportsmanship

TOURNAMENT SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES

Selected team members may become eligible for tournament entry assistance or paid tournament opportunities through Hook'em an Book'em Bait and Tackle.

Tournament assistance is not guaranteed and may be based on:

• Fishing and tournament experience
• Performance and consistency
• Team participation and attendance
• Sportsmanship and professionalism
• Community involvement
• Promotion and representation of the team
• Willingness to travel and compete
• Overall contribution to Hook'em an Book'em Bait and Tackle

The more you put into the team, the more opportunities may become available.

Complete the competitive fishing team application and tell us about your fishing experience, accomplishments, goals, availability, and what you can bring to the team.

Owning a boat is not required for consideration. We welcome dedicated anglers who are ready to compete, contribute, and represent the team.

🎣 COLD FRONT + RAIN = TIME TO CHASE A TROPHY? 🌧️🐟

A lot of fishermen see a cold front and rain coming and decide to stay home. But if you're chasing TROPHY CATFISH, that may be exactly when you need to be on the water.

The key is TIMING THE FRONT.

🔥 BEFORE & DURING THE FRONT
As that pressure starts falling, clouds roll in, wind picks up and rain begins, big cats may become more active.

🌧️ RAIN CREATES CURRENT
When rivers start rising and current increases, bait gets moved around. Big catfish don't always sit in the strongest current—they'll use current breaks, structure and depth changes to sit out of the flow and wait for food to come to them.

🎯 WHERE SHOULD YOU LOOK?
Creek mouths • Current seams • Channel ledges • Deep holes • Downstream sides of structure • Areas where moving water is pushing bait

❄️ AFTER THE FRONT CAN BE DIFFERENT
Once a hard front passes, temperatures drop quickly, pressure rises and those clear bluebird skies show up, that bite can get TOUGH. Trophy fish may tighten up, move deeper and become less aggressive.

Remember this:

FALLING PRESSURE + RAIN + RISING WATER = GET ON THE WATER.

FRONT PASSED + PRESSURE RISING + BLUEBIRD SKIES = BE READY TO GRIND.

Don't be scared of muddy water either. Catfish were built to hunt when visibility sucks. Sometimes that ugly, rising river is exactly where a fish of a lifetime is waiting.

You can't catch a trophy sitting on the couch because the weather isn't perfect.

Learn the weather.
Learn the current.
Learn the structure.
Then put yourself where that BIG FISH wants to feed.

🎣 YOU CAN’T CATCH TROPHY CATFISH IF YOU DON’T LEARN THE WATER! 🎣
Catching big catfish isn’t just about throwing out good bait and hoping a giant swims by. Time spent scanning and learning the water can be just as important as time spent with a line in it.
Your electronics can help you understand what’s underneath you—channels, ledges, drop-offs, holes, humps, structure, current breaks, baitfish, and potential travel routes.
But scanning is only part of it. You’ve got to learn how that water changes.
🔥 Where do the fish move when the current changes?
🔥 What depths are producing during different seasons?
🔥 Where is the bait holding?
🔥 What structure connects deep water to feeding areas?
🔥 Where are those big fish traveling instead of just sitting?
Every trip should teach you something—even the trips when you don’t catch a fish.
Don’t just save waypoints. Learn WHY that spot matters.
The more time you spend studying your water, scanning new areas, watching patterns and putting the pieces together, the more confidence you’ll have when it’s time to target a trophy.
Anybody can drop bait.
The goal is knowing WHY you’re dropping it THERE.

🎣 YOU CAN’T BUILD SKILL FROM THE COUCH.
If you truly want to become a better fisherman, there’s only one way to do it: SPEND TIME ON THE WATER.
Fishing once a month and sitting at home the rest of the time isn’t going to teach you what the river is doing. It won’t teach you how fish react to changing water levels, temperature, current, weather, bait, or different times of the year.
Every trip teaches you something—even the trips when you don’t catch a fish.
Time on the water builds SKILL.
Time on the water builds CONFIDENCE.
Time on the water builds EXPERIENCE.
You learn where fish move when conditions change. You learn when to stay patient and when to move. You learn which bait works and which doesn’t. You learn how to read the water instead of just hoping something bites.
And most importantly, you learn from your mistakes.
Nobody becomes a great fisherman overnight. You earn it through early mornings, late nights, bad weather, empty hooks, lost fish, changing spots, trying new techniques, and putting in hours when nobody else is watching.
You can watch videos. You can buy the best rods, reels, electronics, and tackle money can buy. You can listen to everybody else's advice.
But none of it replaces TIME ON THE WATER.
If you want to get better, GO FISH.
If you want more confidence, GO FISH.
If you want more experience, GO FISH.
Stop worrying about who catches more fish than you. Put your time in, learn your waters, learn from every trip, and become a better fisherman than YOU were yesterday.
