The last few months spent on flat bars in thin air, acclimatizing in preparation for 100+ miles spent above 10,000 ft. Dialing in the bike set up, prepping nutrition at high altitude, hoping all goes to plan but it rarely does. Leadville is iconic—The Race Across The Sky, now over 30 years old, coveted by all. Belt buckles, cowboy hats, old dusty mining roads, and the welcoming spirit of the local Leadville lore.
Sport is a fickle thing. So much preparation in hopes of a clean run, but oftentimes that run isn’t clean and you gotta pivot and dig deep playing catch up to stay in the game. But once in a while you catch tailwinds and diamond legs, and that’s the hit that keeps us all coming back for more.
