The next time you complain that your kid should be starting, or doesn’t get enough minutes, or should be scoring more, or why the team lost, ask yourself…why do you coach from the stands???
If you can do better, get involved….
Sacrifice your time, and make a difference!!!
Coaching youth sports is a thankless job. It requires several virtues, and patience is at the top (personally, I am still working on that one).
The pay (none) sucks, but the benefits (teaching life skills such as discipline, team work, communication, commitment, sacrifice, and hard work to our kids) are second to none.
In our “participation trophy” society, ask yourself this… Do you want to teach your child to work hard to achieve their goals, or should they expect to achieve their goals by hardly working?
If you choose to coach, do it the right way: Put fundamental development ahead of winning now.
Keep in mind that player development is a process, and it will take time, but it will produce greater results in the long run.
