In the winter of 1974, Bob Frye started a small cross country ski rental operation out of the Sports Barn of Higgins Lake. Since then, with the help of his wife Lynne, it has grown to one of the premier cross country ski destinations in the Midwest, offering 19 kilometers of groomed trail, a full service day lodge and kitchen, a rental facility with 200 pairs of ski and snowshoe rentals, and a specialty retail store featuring dozens of top XC ski and clothing brands at very low prices. To this day, people from all over the country (and sometimes other countries!) walk through our doors with the hopes of getting out on the snow and enjoying winter. With a vast variety of equipment to choose from, plus a fun, inviting atmosphere and weekend events, occasional night skiing, and daily lunch specials, there is truly something for everyone a the Cross Country Ski Headquarters.
