Fuel Your Workout, Don’t Just “Pre-Workout” It ⚡️

Want better training performance? Your pre-workout meal doesn’t have to be complicated—it just needs the right fuel.
Here are a few evidence-informed pairings to try 1–3 hours before training:
🍌 Banana + Greek yogurt
Carbs for readily available energy + protein to support muscle.
🥯 Bagel + eggs
A higher-carb option when you have a tougher or longer session ahead.
🥣 Oatmeal + berries + Greek yogurt
Carbs for fuel, plus protein and antioxidants—great for a morning workout.
🍞 Toast + banana + a little nut butter
Easy-to-digest carbs with a modest amount of fat. Keep the nut butter portion smaller if you’re training soon.
🍚 Rice + chicken + fruit

A simple, balanced option when you have several hours before a demanding workout.

💡 The basic formula: prioritize carbohydrates, add some protein, and keep fat and fiber moderate when you’re eating close to training—especially if a heavy meal tends to upset your stomach.

And don’t forget hydration. 💧

There’s no single “perfect” pre-workout meal. The best choice is one that gives you enough fuel, sits comfortably, and fits your training schedule.

Remembering September 11, 2001

Twenty-five years have passed since September 11, 2001, but the courage, sacrifice, and unity of that day remain with us.

Today, the Snap Fitness and Alpha 1 Personal Training family pauses to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93. We honor the firefighters, police officers, first responders, service members, and ordinary Americans who ran toward danger to help people they had never met.

We remember the families who lost someone they loved, those who survived, and the countless lives forever changed.

And we remember what followed: communities came together. Neighbors helped neighbors. Strangers became family. In one of America's darkest moments, we were reminded of the extraordinary courage, compassion, and strength that can unite us.
Twenty-five years later, that example still matters.

We remember the lives.
We honor the heroes.
We carry their memory forward.
We will never forget.

Why not?! Wednesday!!

Today they pushed it in search of “failure” and in return, they found out just how strong they really are!!

When asked at the end- “what move did you surprise yourself with?”

Karen- "the first round of goblet squats I went heavier"
Hannah- "the bench rows were the worst, but I got through them!"

GREAT JOB LADIES!!!! 💪💪💪

Train your body for the life you want to live!

Functional ability is your body's capacity to perform everyday movements safely, efficiently, and with confidence. It combines strength, mobility, balance, coordination, endurance, and flexibility.

Improving functional ability helps you:
Lift and carry objects safely
Climb stairs with less effort
Play with your kids or grandkids comfortably
Improve posture and balance
Reduce your risk of falls and injuries

There are 7 main components to Functional Ability:
Strength – Move and lift with confidence
Mobility – Move joints through a full range of motion
Balance – Stay stable during daily activities
Coordination – Move efficiently and smoothly
Flexibility – Reduce stiffness and improve movement
Endurance – Keep going without excessive fatigue
Core Stability – Support your spine and improve overall movement

Functional fitness benefits everyone. Whether you're 25 or 75, training movement patterns helps you stay active, independent, and prepared for everyday life.

The goal isn't just to be fit, but to remain capable of movement. Train for the life you live every day.

Save this post for your next workout and share it with someone who wants to move better!

🥝 Try 2 Kiwis Before Bed Tonight! 😴

Looking for a simple nighttime habit that may support better sleep?

Research has found that eating 2 kiwifruits about 1 hour before bedtime may help improve several aspects of sleep, including:
✨ Falling asleep faster
🌙 Staying asleep longer
💤 Improving sleep efficiency
⏰ Increasing total sleep time

One study had adults eat 2 kiwis 1 hour before bed for 4 weeks and found improvements in sleep onset, total sleep time, and sleep efficiency. Other research has also found promising results.

The timing:
🥝 Eat 2 kiwis approximately 60 minutes before you plan to go to sleep.
For example, if your bedtime is 10:30 PM → have your kiwis around 9:30 PM.
Kiwis also provide vitamin C, fiber, and other beneficial nutrients, making them a nutrient-dense nighttime snack.

🌙 Simple routine:
9:30 PM — 2 kiwis 🥝🥝
10:30 PM — Lights out 😴

It’s not a magic sleep cure, but it’s an easy habit worth trying if you’re looking to support your nighttime routine.

Would you try 2 kiwis before bed? 🥝👇

✨ RED LIGHT BEFORE YOU TAN? YES! ✨

If you’re already coming in for a tanning session, consider adding Medical-Grade Red Light Therapy FIRST. ☀️❤️

Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support your skin at the cellular level — making it a great addition to your self-care routine.

❤️ Why Red Light First?

✨ Supports healthy collagen & elastin production
✨ Helps improve the look and feel of skin
✨ Supports healthy circulation
✨ May help calm temporary redness and inflammation
✨ Promotes overall skin wellness and recovery
✨ Gives your skin a little extra TLC before your tanning session

Think of it as a two-step glow routine:

RED LIGHT → TAN → GLOW ✨

And because our red light therapy is a completely separate service from our tanning bed, you can easily stack the two into one visit.

📲 Book your Red Light Therapy session immediately before your next tanning appointment and make it a full wellness experience!

Functional ability is your capacity to perform everyday tasks safely and efficiently—whether that's lifting a grandchild, carrying groceries, getting up off the floor, climbing stairs, or enjoying a weekend hike.

Research consistently shows that maintaining muscle strength, balance, mobility, and cardiovascular fitness is associated with a lower risk of falls, injury, chronic disease, disability, and loss of independence as we age.

The goal of training isn't just to look better.
It's to move better.
To hurt less.
To stay independent longer.
To be capable when life demands it.

At Alpha1 Personal Training/Snap Fitness, we don't just build stronger bodies—we build bodies that are prepared for real life.

Because fitness should improve your life outside the gym, not just your performance inside it.

🥗 Top Anti-Inflammatory Foods Rheumatologists Often Recommend

Chronic inflammation can contribute to joint pain, stiffness, fatigue, and other health issues. While food isn't a cure, many rheumatologists encourage patients to build meals around foods that may help reduce inflammation:

🐟 Fatty Fish
Salmon, sardines, trout, and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which may help lower inflammatory markers.

🫐 Berries
Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries contain antioxidants called anthocyanins that support the body's natural defense systems.

🥬 Leafy Greens
Spinach, kale, collard greens, and Swiss chard provide vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds linked to lower inflammation.

🫒 Extra Virgin Olive Oil
A cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet, olive oil contains healthy fats and polyphenols with anti-inflammatory properties.

🥜 Nuts & Seeds
Walnuts, almonds, chia seeds, and flaxseeds offer healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants.

🍅 Colorful Vegetables
Tomatoes, bell peppers, broccoli, and carrots are packed with nutrients that help support overall health.

🌿 Herbs & Spices
Turmeric, ginger, garlic, and cinnamon contain compounds that have been studied for their anti-inflammatory effects.

🫘 Beans & Legumes
Lentils, chickpeas, and beans provide fiber and plant-based protein that support a healthy inflammatory response.

🍵 Green Tea
Rich in polyphenols, green tea may help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation.

💡 Pro Tip: Rather than focusing on one "superfood," rheumatologists often recommend an overall Mediterranean-style eating pattern—emphasizing whole foods, healthy fats, vegetables, fruits, legumes, and fish.
