Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run

Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run is an endurance event for trail runners celebrating the preservation of natural lands along the Shawangunk Mountains.

The inaugural edition of SRT Run/Hike will take place September 19-21, 2014, offering three divisions:
- 20-mile, starting in Minnewaska State Park Preserve, Sunday morning, Sep 21
- 32-mile, starting at Sams Point, Saturday morning, Sep 20
- 74-mile, representing an entire "crossing" of the SRT, starting at High Point State Park, NJ, Friday afternoon, Sep 19

All divisions end at the Rosendale Trestle in Rosendale, NY, where participants will receive finishers awards

The SRT celebrates the preservation of the Gunks Greenway, comprising various land parcels across the entire Shawangunk Ridgeline, and seeks to raise awareness of this important trail, the natural beauty of the ridgeline, and the work of the NY-NJ Trail Conference and its volunteers in preserving the land

Please note this event also celebrates the experience of the wilderness and as such is unsupported
- The SRT is blazed, but there are no additional course markings
- Participants will pass through checkpoints for accountability and safety, but the event is unsupported, and there are no aid stations with food or water
- Pacers, crews, support vehicles, and/or caching of food are not permitted

With our cloud- based accountability system, everyone on the race team can see the status for each checkpoint in real time. At 1:50.am, we have 27 runners still on the course, with 12 on the way to checkpoint 2 and 15 headed to checkpoint 3

The course is marked! Meaning the last 6 miles from Checkpoint #6 to the Trestle.

We marked the intersections using pink and striped tape and pink stakes. There are some occasional reflective white dots in tree trunks in the swampy section.

Be advised there is some surveyor work going on -- don't follow orange tape off into the woods!

The trail is pretty clear and easy to follow, so we marked the intersections, but did not put continuity markers in between. If you're not sure, just check whatever map app you're using to see if your dot is still on the line. But don't use AllTrails - for whatever reason, they deleted this section of the SRT from their app. We've submitted a request for them to restore it

Best practice/pro tip - download the GPX file from our website. It was last measured in 2025 and in checking with NY NJ Trail Conference star cartographer Jeremy Apgar, there have been no material changes since then

6 hours 37 minutes left to register for the 70- and 30-mile divisions. The 1/2 is sold out.

These four musketeers headed out today to take care of some last-minute trail work. By SRT standards, the trail is now in manicured condition. At least the first couple miles -- after that, the adventure begins.

Hey folks, we're super excited to bring you the 12th edition of the SRT Run -- and we're ready to rock and roll on race day!

The volunteer roster is filled out, and we've bolstered the leadership team with SRT veterans to ensure this is once again a smooth operation. Trail Conference volunteers have been out on the course making sure it's clear and marked and ready for you. The permitting process is complete, with nearly 20 insurance certificates issues to the various landowners and agencies who manage the patchwork of public and private lands through which the SRT wends its way. This year's winner's prizes -- traditional Navajo knives -- are on hand, ready for the first male, female, and non-binary in each division, as well as the oldest finisher, too ("old is cool").

But if you'd like to run, you better sign up soon -- we close registration five days before the race in order to prevent any last minute administrative issues. No exceptions.

And we're sorry to report that the 1/2 marathon is sold out. No exceptions here, either.

For more info and to register, visit https://www.runwildhv.org/srt

Also: we've got a final trail maintenance trip planned for this Sunday at High Point State Park to do some trimming near the start of the 70-miler and could use a couple of helpers. Please DM us if you'd like more info

Call for volunteers!

Hey everyone, with the race one month away, we're looking for a few more race day volunteers on Saturday September 12:
- chill at one of our luxuriously appointed checkpoints to track runners passing through (you don't have to feed them)

- help eat and serve pizza at the finish line

- sweep team members needed, on foot and on bicycle, to trail the back of the pack while maintaining radio contact with SAR teams for extraction (if needed)

- we'd love to have a marketing/PR expert posting race updates with pix and live action videos if you know how to do that (we don't)

Also, we're organizing some trail work outings to clean up parts of the trail in the southern sections (near Port Jervis)
- August 20 and September 6 are two possible dates

Also, if you're interested in trail work, the NYNJ Trail Conference is looking for volunteers to adopt sections of the SRT and help us take care of this race course/regional connector trail

If any of this sounds like fun, then post a comment or DM us and we'll get right back to you

And if you want to run in the race and maybe win a knife, SIGN UP NOW because we close registration a week before the race and don't be one of those people we have to disappoint cause we can't let you in last minute
