šŸŒŠ New Corps Operations Improve Chattahoochee River Water Quality šŸŸ

We have approved a new operating procedure at Buford Dam to improve dissolved oxygen levels in the Chattahoochee River downstream of Lake Sidney Lanier.

By combining turbine releases with aerated flows through the sluice gates, the operation improves water quality in the upper tailwater, providing healthier conditions for trout and the aquatic ecosystem along the 35-mile reach between Buford Dam and Morgan Falls Dam. šŸ šŸŒæ

The change does not alter lake levels or the total amount of water released it simply changes how the minimum flow is delivered.

The effort is part of Sustainable Rivers Program, which uses science-based changes to dam operations to support healthier river ecosystems while maintaining authorized project purposes.

The new procedure will also support the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and the Georgia DNR Buford Trout Hatchery, helping maintain water conditions important for recreation, fishing and trout production. river while supporting the continued operation of Buford Dam.

Wade fishing the Chattahoochee is a bit intimidating. Between the expansive nature of the River and the Army Corps of Engineers Buford Dam release schedules can be daunting. Please join Orvis Alpharetta on an extensive wade fishing seminar on the River this coming Saturday October 3rd. Part of the this wading course you will need to attend an evening in store briefing on safety, public access points, fly selection, gear check list on this Thursday October 1st. We normally cannot take three grown men in our drift boats but occasionally we make the exception. These boys have fished Alaska and many other distant waters together so we made it happen again on the Chattahoochee keeping with their Family tradition of three generations together enjoying the outdoors! šŸ™Œā¤ļøšŸ˜Š šŸ§ˆ

From nervous first trips to 30 years of guiding experience. šŸŽ£

Back then, getting a client their fishing photos meant keeping stamped envelopes in a Tupperware box, developing the film at Eckerd Drugs, and mailing the pictures out at the end of the month.

Today? Weā€™re AirDropping photos and videos before the boat even hits the ramp.

A lot has changed over the years, but the goal hasnā€™t: put our clients on fish, create a great experience, and make sure they leave with memories to take home.
