LABOR DAY HOLIDAY EARLY START -- SIGN IN BY 4:30

Since Monday September 7 is the Labor Day holiday and most folks don't have to work, we're doing our usual holiday early start schedule for the East Roswell Park Recreational Singles League. We'll cut off sign-in about 4:30 and start as soon as we can after that. This is week 27 for the league for 2026. First Monday of the month means short (white) tees.

Sign-in will begin between 4:30 and 4:45 at the picnic tables behind kiosk near the course.

For the rest of September, sign-in will cut off at 5:15 as the days are getting shorter. Next Monday, September 14, will be the final time this year we will play the long (black) tees.

$2 minimum buy-in -- optional side action includes 2 $1 CTPs and a $1 ace fund ($5 total all in). League first-timers get free basic entry (does not include CTPs or ace fund). There are also typically two free cash CTPs ($10 and $20) and two free disc CTPs that everyone's included in.

No need to do any registration or sign-up in advance -- just show up and play. Check in on UDisc using the "Events" tab. If you don't already have a UDisc account, please create one ahead of time. It can be a free account, but UDisc has made it impossible for us to create an account on your behalf -- you have to do it yourself.

We play rain or shine unless there's lightning nearby or dangerously high winds. If it's storming at start time we will delay until the storm is over, or until there wouldn't be enough daylight left to finish. If it's raining during sign-in, it will move to the pavilion by the pond, adjacent to the parking area. If we need to suspend once the round has started, we will broadcast a message to all players via the UDisc app.

This is a handicap-format recreational-level singles league. Handicaps are based on player performance in league rounds relative to course averages. Points are awarded each week based on handicap-adjusted order of finish and the total number of players that week. First place gets a point for each player present, second gets 1 point less than that, down to last place which gets 1 point. Points accumulate throughout the season and at the end of the year, the top (approximately) 40% get a cash payout from the prize fund collected during the season -- the mathematically adept will have concluded that the total prize fund will be equal to $1 for each round played by each player. Last year it was a bit over $1600, paid out to 67 players.

Until late April, and after mid September, we play the white (short) tees weekly. Beginning in April and until September, the layout rotates between white (short) and black (long) tees, playing white tees on the first and third Monday of each month, and the black tees on the second and fourth. After September 8 this year, we will play white (short) tees only for the reset of the season. Start time varies with length of days through the season -- posted time on schedule is sign-in cutoff time.

New found disc drop box on kiosk at ERP

Monday August 17 alerts:

Road/parking lot resurfacing work at ERP continues. Parking lot closest to disc golf course is repaved (not re-striped yet). AC Lavender Drive (road through park from Fouts Rd to Eves Rd) is actively being ground up to resurface. Use caution driving through park. Work should be done for the day by time for league today, but be careful.

Active yellowjacket nest near 9's basket (slightly uphill toward 16/18 at about 2:30 if facing practice basket from 9's basket). Will be spraying before league, but still be aware.

What's Happening With the Fire Station?

It's still going to happen

Design work has been completed and the design has been approved by the city's Design Review Board, at the regular DRB monthly meeting in July. The city is now soliciting bids for construction contracts. Companies have until noon on Monday, August 17, to submit an intent to bid notice, with bids due on Tuesday, Aug 25 @ 1:30 PM

But not for a while

Once the bids are received, there will be a process of reviewing bids, downselecting bidders, negotiation, etc. According to the most recent information on the city's procurement system, the anticipated award date is October 30, 2026. Construction for Fire Station 27 is now expected to begin in December 2026 or January of 2027. This is approximately one to two months earlier than the previously anticipated start date of February 2027. Construction is expected to take 420 days (i.e., approximately 1 year and 2 months), putting completion in the February to April n 2028.

What will happen to the disc golf course?

The city has contracted with an experienced course designer to redesign and reconfigure the affected areas. The RDGC and the RRPD are working with the course designer to make the new version of ERP the best it can be. Holes 3, 4, and 5 in their current form will have to be changed or relocated; once construction starts, these holes will be closed, and if necessary temporary holes will added outside the construction area. Some parts of the area affected by construction may become available for disc golf use again once construction activities are complete.

The city has also committed to making other improvements. As a first step, the city has ordered 18 new baskets from Innova, expected to be delivered in September 2026.

The City of Roswell, Georgia Government will begin resurfacing improvements at East Roswell Park on Monday, August 10, as part of the City's voter-approved 2022 Bond Referendum and Roswell's 2026 Resurfacing Program.
