Glove Medic

Glove Medic is out at the Texas Volts home game at Dell Diamond.

This Wilson A2k got a full rebuild with tan lace from Rawlings and a thorough conditioning with Sarna glove conditioner.

This Wilson A2k glove was looking a bit rough and was ready for a full rebuild. Conditioned with Rawlings Glovolium conditioner and relaced with black lace with a splash of tan in the web.

This Rawlings Pro Preferred 1b mitt had several battle field repairs done and was ready for a full rebuild. After cleaning it up and conditioning it inside and out I reassembled it with fresh Rawlings black lace.

This glove is from a company named KUBOTA from Japan and is a real nice well made unit. The owner wanted a bit stiffer feel so a relace was in order. I reglued the palm and installed bigger Rawlings tan lace in the web to give the whole glove a bit more firmness.

This Wilson A2000 catchers mitt was in good shape but the laces had thin as a age and we’re ready for replacement. After a good conditioning I used beefy Rawlings black lace that is much stronger than the original lace. 

This A2000 Trapeze web outfielder had a broken lace in the web and the owner wanted a full rebuild. I used Sarna conditioner and beefy Rawlings black lace that will last.

Let’s talk about glove conditioning. These are the conditioners that I’ve used and have proven to make gloves last much longer. The Rawlings Glovolium spray works great on gloves that have been neglected and start out as very dry. I’ll give it a light spray coating and let it sit in a few hours repeating if it still looks dry. This spray comes out in a fine mist so it doesn’t add much weight, but it works great to get the leather back into shape. The Glovolium rub and Wilson Pro Stock conditioners are pretty interchangeable and work great on most gloves. They add a good layer of moisture resistance, which is especially crucial when conditioning the inside of the glove. If you have a light colored glove (white, blonde, baby blue, etc) I recommend Sarna glove conditioner because it works well and doesn’t change the color of the lighter glove like some of the other conditioners can.  The most important area to condition consistently is the inside of the glove anywhere the players hand touches, including the piping around the hand opening. On the outside of the glove I simply do a little conditioning wherever it looks dry. The palm area where the ball is caught will need to be conditioned more frequently than the outside of the glove. If you’re set to play in any conditions that might have rain or drizzle I recommend a light coat of conditioner on the outside of the glove to prevent moisture from getting into the leather. A microfiber towel is all you need to apply the conditioners and your fingers to get it deeper inside the glove including the thumb/pinkey loops and dividers between the fingers.

This Wilson A2000 DP15 got a new lease on life with tan Rawlings lace.

I’ve been doing a lot of older gloves lately. This is another early Wilson A2000 that was relaced with black and tan lace to get it back in the game.
