If your goal is more thigh development and you don't have access to machines, I’m a big fan of squats where the weight is in front of you.

Stay as upright as you can, allow your knees to travel forward naturally, and squat as deep as you comfortably can.

More knee bend = more work for the thighs.

If you're taking a GLP-1, losing weight isn't the only thing you should be paying attention to.

You want to lose fat while keeping as much muscle as possible.

So if you're on one:

Strength train consistently.
Make protein a priority.
Make sure you're covering your nutritional bases.

The goal isn't just to make the scale go down.

It's to come out of the weight loss process lighter, healthier, and with as much muscle as possible.

That conversation has stuck with me for years.

Not because it made me anti-medication or anti-doctor. Far from it.

It actually changed the way I think about medication.

I started to view medication as something that buys me time.

Time to lose the weight.
Time to move more.
Time to eat better.

Work on whatever is still within my control.

And hopefully, by doing those things, I eventually need less of it, or none at all.

I know that's not possible with every medication or every health circumstance. Some people DO need it.

But if it IS possible, that's how I want to think of it.

Help me buy some time so I can work on building a better life... not just maintain a smaller one.

Everyone should squat.

But not everyone should do the same kind of squat.

If your starting out and regular squats are difficult right now, that doesn't mean you shouldn't squat. It probably means you need to find a variation that works better for where you're at.

Knees hurt? Squat to a bench.

Can't get low or keep falling forward? Elevate your heels.

Back bothering you? A split squat may be a better option.

Not strong enough yet? Use a TRX, rack, chair, or anything else that gives you some assistance.

The goal isn't to force yourself into the "perfect" squat.

Find the squat that works for you right now, get stronger at it, and build from there.

One of my biggest fears as I get older...

Spending more and more money just to maintain a worse and worse quality of life.

And I'm also not naive. As we get older, there are probably going to be things we have to spend money on just to maintain our health. That's part of getting older.

What I don't want to do is spend money maintaining a decline that I still have SOME ability to change.

If medication, doctors, or a procedure give me more time and a better opportunity to work on the things I can control, my weight, strength, movement, nutrition, etc... I want to use that opportunity.

I'm a fan of walking for fat loss

It's a low impact, low stress way that about everyone can do to help with fat loss

How many steps does someone need to take to lose weight?

There’s no magic number, but here’s what we typically see with our clients:

👉 10–12K/day = steady, small weight loss
👉 14–15K/day = very consistent weight loss
👉 18–20K/day = where we often see weight really start moving

But here’s the important part:

**More isn’t always better.**

We typically start someone around 8–10K steps per day and see how their body responds.

If they’re losing weight at a rate they are happy with? Great. Keep we it there.

If progress starts slowing down? We can gradually turn the dial up.

The goal isn’t to walk 20,000 steps every day.

**The goal is to find the lowest amount of activity that keeps you making progress... and only increase it when you need to.**

And remember: steps are only ONE part of fat loss. Nutrition and strength training still matter.

There’s a lot of talk in fitness about the “minimum effective dose.”

How little do you need to exercise to get the result you want?

And physiologically, I understand the argument.

But I think sometimes we forget that people work out for more than just muscle, strength, or fat loss.
