Vintage Base Ball Club playing by the rules of the 1860's. No gloves, wooden bats, vintage uniforms! The sport was played with no gloves and wood bats.

The Wahoo Base Ball Club of Royal Oak MI plays The Game of Base Ball as it was played in the early 1860's. We play in the gentlemanly manner that was common of the era. Before contracts and before PED's men played purely for the love of the game. That is what we try to bring to the field when we play.

Well, this may be the most delayed post game recap. We must finally be exhausted!

This past Saturday, the weather gods came through and made blue skies for us to host the Rochester Grangers Vintage Base Ball Club.

In a strange turn of events, The Wahoo Base Ball Club of Royal Oak elected to play a fly game instead of our standard bound rules.

We left our bats at home however. The Grangers did not and instead sprayed the ball all over the field just like the Wahoos threw the ball.

An 11 run inning proved to be an insurmountable task for the Wahoos. The final tally being 25-10 in favor of our guests.

A rare weekend off to celebrate our own MopTop's graduation!

We will be back at it on June 20th against the Hamtramck Hussars Base Ball Club at the Ashley Festival!

Now that we have gotten some rest and the sprinkles have turned off at Normandy Oaks, we can recap!

What a busy weekend for The Wahoo Base Ball Club of Royal Oak!

Saturday morning began bright and early, beginning the Battle Alley Brawl in Holly against familiar foes, the Early Riser Base Ball Club of Detroit! In what was maybe the most competitive back and forth match we have ever played with them extra innings were needed. Going into the bottom of the 9th, the Wahoos were down 2 and plated one. With Woody on First as the winning run, Spitz hit a bomb to deep left that would have undoubtedly scored the fleet of foot baserunners! Unfortunately, Cueball made an incredible grab to deny the Wahoos victory.

Our next opponent was the Wyandotte Stars Vintage Base Ball Club for the Growler championship! The Wahoos came out swinging hard and strung together some timely hits to capture the growler championship!

But wait! The weekend wasn't over! The Wahoos hosted the The Ohio Village Muffins and the Continental Base Ball Club of Kalamazoo at Normandy Oaks Park on sunday in Round Robin fashion. This marked the first visit to Royal Oak for both visiting clubs! Scores do not matter, as the weather was perfect, the Muffins and Continentals finally met which is important. They hose 2 of the best festivals in the Midwest. We grilled, laughed, made new friends, and reconnected with old! We cannot wait to see the Continentals in Kalamazoo for the Portage Festival and the Muffins at the Ohio Cup!

Today, The Wahoo Base Ball Club of Royal Oak hosted our 2nd Annual Memorial Day Tournament!

Our day began with the Royal Oak Memorial Day parade! A staple for our club. We engaged with the spectators, tossing the ball to kids and having a lot fun joined by our friends the Monitor Base Ball Club of Chelsea, MI and the Franklin Base Ball Club.

The tournament began on unmanicured fields, that needed to be tended to! The Wahoos came out swinging early against the Welcome Campbell No.27 BBC of Ferndale. Ferndale started clawing back and the Wahoos leaned heavily on the bat of Bronco and his cycle! The Monitors showed their ability as a club by testing the Franklins handily, while also featuring Trek for Vets founder, Lawrence Miller!

After the first round of games, we broke for food. This is maybe the most enjoyable part of the day. Time to relax and spend it with friends.

The final games began and the Wahoos struck early and built a lead over Chelsea. Chelsea began to string together some line drives and push over a few late runs! The Wahoo club pulled away in the 8th inning to take a lead. The game ended atop the Wahoo shoulders for the Championship! On the other field, the Franklins and the Welcome Cambells had a finely contested match that saw the Franklins come away with victory.

We cannot wait to host this wonderful event again next year! A huge shout out to Debb, Anika Zufelt, Nikki Bollinger, Peaches, Puddin, and everyone else who assisted with food setup! It was truly a team effort!

Yesterday The Wahoo Base Ball Club of Royal Oak traveled west to the beautiful Irish Hils to play a round robin with our friends the Walker Tavern Wheels and the Early Riser Base Ball Club of Detroit.

The Wahoos found themselves putting runners on base all day but being robbed with great defense in key moments.

The Wheels took Game 1 21-6. The score does not tell the full story as the Wahoos played their best game on this unique field.

The Risers to a back and forth game 11-9 after eliminating a Wahoo threat in the last half of the ninth inning!

In between and during games snacks, conversation and catching up was on the menu. We look forward to this early season event every year!!

This is really exciting!!!

The Monitor Base Ball Club of Chelsea, MI is doing their annual Tallies for Charity match at our Memorial Day Tournament. This is especially symbolic due to the charity Honest Jon has chosen! Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and honor for all service.members. The charity this year is Trek for Vets.

In Honest Jon's own words, this is why this was chosen:

this year we are going to support 'Trek For Vets', an organization that supports awareness and support for military veterans suffering from isolation and crises. The founder, Lawrence Miller, came to speak at my work place, the Chelsea Senior Center, last year at Veteran's Day. He's got a compelling story, and a great mission. He is embarking on his 2nd annual Trek For Vets, walking 500 miles - started May 1st up in St Ignace, and will actually end up in Royal Oak on May 25.

Stop by the parade and see us all walking and cheering! Then swing by Normandy Oaks Park to watch this amazing game and help raise some money for charity!!!!
