2026 VIRUS OPEN SERIES 1 RECAP

This was .guilescf first official weightlifting meet and she stepped onto a big platform to do it.

Learning the flow of a national-level competition while navigating early misses in the sn**ch isn’t easy, but Rachel is a lifelong athlete who knows how to reset and respond. She stayed composed, worked through the session, and set herself up for a strong finish.

After the sn**ch portion, she settled in during a long break - refueling, staying loose, and keeping things light with casual conversations in the back room. When it was time for clean & jerks, she was locked in - going 3/3 and putting together a big finish highlighted by a 100kg clean & jerk.

Sn**ch 68
Clean & Jerk 100
Total 168

An impressive debut on a big stage. Excited to see how she continues to grow in the sport and the energy she brings to the platform every time she steps on it!

As we begin 2026, I just want to say thank you.

Thank you for showing up. For trusting the process. For putting in the work when it’s hard, not just when it’s convenient. This place exists because of the people in it - the athletes, the coaches, the staff, and the community that keeps choosing to invest in themselves and each other.

We’re heading into a new year with better systems, better tools, and bigger goals - but the standard stays the same: work hard, train with intent, take care of each other, and keep raising the bar.

I’m proud of what we’ve built, and even more excited about where we’re going.

Let’s get after it in 2026. 😤

Most small businesses don’t make it past their first few years. That reality has never been lost on me.

Motor City Barbell started in December 2016 in a 1,000 sq ft space with the basics - barbells, a couple squat racks/free weights on a shoe string budget and a vision of what could be. What we lacked in space at the time, we made up for in effort, consistency, and people willing to show up and build something together.

As the community grew, so did the gym. In 2018, MCB 2.0 took shape inside an old machine shop. More room, more opportunity, and more responsibility. That space was filled with hard training days, big milestones, and a simple reminder on the garage door: “Did you work hard today?” It became part of the culture.

When COVID forced change across the industry, MCBC adapted. We evolved our training model into what is now our open floor coaching approach - allowing athletes of all backgrounds and goals to train under one roof while keeping coaching, standards, and community at the center.

In 2023, MCB 3.0 came to life - a 4,000 sq ft facility built with the help of members who believed in the vision and supported every step forward. This chapter also marked MCBC’s growth from a single-coach operation into a true team. With coaches like Rachel, Calvin, and Ashely, Motor City Barbell became a collective of hardworking, motivated people committed to coaching and putting members first.

Through every space, one thing has stayed constant: this gym has been built by its community. Members who showed up early, stayed late, worked hard, spread the word, and trusted the process through every transition. MCBC exists today because people chose to build something together.

And of course, the four-legged coaches have always been part of the story - Maya our OG, Mikey who left his mark early on, and Macaroni carrying things forward.

Nine years later, Motor City Barbell isn’t just a gym. It’s a reflection of the hundreds of people who have walked through its doors.

Grateful for the hard lessons, the growth, and the community that made it possible.

Here’s to nine years - and what’s still ahead. 🤘

🇺🇸 VIRUS FINALS - RYLEE’S NATIONAL STAGE DEBUT

Big weekend for our youth athlete Rylee, who stepped onto the national platform for the first time at the USAW Virus Finals in Daytona.

She handled the day with maturity and grit - an unexpected weight-class curveball didn’t shake her. She showed up, trusted her training, and went 5/6 on the biggest stage she’s been on to date.

Sn**ch: 39 / 41 / 44
Clean & Jerk: 49/ 52/ 54x
Total: 96

Most importantly, she competed with heart, composure, and Motor City grit. That experience, that courage, and that commitment are what matter most - and we couldn’t be more proud of her.

If you see her in the club this week, give her some love. She earned it. 🤘

Small Business Saturday hits a little different when you’re surrounded by a community like this.

To every member - past, present, day one, and brand new thank you. You’re the reason these four walls stay loud, strong, and full of momentum. MCBC has grown because of the people who show up, lift each other up, and believe in what we’re building here in Royal Oak.

We’re grateful for every rep, every PR, every drop-in, every referral, and every person who’s helped shape this place into Michigan’s home for strength & Olympic weightlifting.

Our New Member Deals are still live for one more week if you or a friend have been thinking about joining in.

See you at the club. 😎
