For anyone starting their “fitness journey” tomorrow, here is my (I think good) advice for you….
Working in the fitness industry for over 22 years (😳) now, I have unfortunately seen too many people wait until January 1st to start working out and stop within two weeks, only to wait until the following January and do it all again.
I believe one of the biggest causes of this is… most of us have an all or nothing mentally when we think about fitness. To go from doing no fitness to doing 3-5 days a week is a drastic change though. Fitness isn’t always fun, it’s work. It can be tough, demanding, and tiresome. But, ultimately I need it, and so do you.
So, go into this New Year being an “a little bit every week” person.
Set yourself up for success. Don’t go 0-60. Try one day a week. It’s not a race when you’re talking about the rest of your life. If you haven’t worked out in a long time (or ever before), just do one day a week. When it becomes a part of your week, a part of your life, then maybe you add a second day. One day a week can help alleviate back pain, you can build muscle, your joints might ache less and most importantly, you start to feel better.
This is the year everyone starts and never stops!
