Day 2 of ever hunting… and I just got my second doe. 🦌🏹

After a completely quiet morning, we were packing up to leave.

I walked into the open field and a doe started walking straight toward me.

About 10 yards.

Still shaking. 😂

327 days later. 🦌🏹

I started this journey knowing basically nothing about bowhunting.

At 41, I learned to shoot a bow, practiced for almost a year, made plenty of mistakes and learned a ton from Wes.

Tonight I got my first deer.

Couldn’t have done it without Wes — who even came out on his birthday to help the kids and me track her.

Starting something completely new at 41 and seeing it through was pretty special.

And yes… I wanted to go hunting again the next morning.

Now I had to find her. 🦌

My first time ever following a blood trail.

I was learning what to look for, what the blood was telling us, and how slowly we needed to work through the trail.

We couldn’t find my arrow anywhere along the way.

Then we found her — and the arrow was still there.

IT HAPPENED!!! 🦌🏹

My first deer.

20 yards. After all the practicing, learning, preparation and even a missed first shot… it finally happened.

The reaction pretty much says it all. 😂

My first shot at a deer. 😬🏹

35 yards. I drew back, everything happened exactly how I had imagined it happening…

And then I hit a branch. 😂

Not exactly how I pictured my first shot going, but it’s officially in the books.

A lot more to learn.

I got within 15 yards. 🦌🏹

While moving my saddle for tonight, I ran into a few deer and ended up trying my first spot-and-stalk.

I managed to get within about 15 yards of a small doe. I decided not to take the shot, but getting that close on my first day hunting was pretty awesome.

First hunt update: I’ve officially seen deer. 🦌😂

One was blowing at me in the dark about five minutes after I got set up, then I spotted four doe later in the morning.

Rain, shifting wind, and the church next door mowing its lawn… suburban hunting is already interesting.

Might have to rethink the setup for tonight. Follow along — I’m learning this as I go.

Tomorrow it gets real. 🦌🏹

My first time ever hunting.

I’ve practiced all year, the gear is packed, and apparently if I get a deer, Wes is willing to leave his own birthday festivities to come help me. 😂

I’m excited, nervous and definitely feeling a little pressure.

3 days until my first deer hunt. 🦌🏹

I’ve been practicing all year, the stand is ready, and now there really isn’t anything left to do except go hunt.

Saturday morning we find out if any of this actually works. 😂

Apparently prepping for deer season includes doing laundry. 😂🦌

Washed all the new camo in Dead Down Wind, and Wes recommended letting everything air dry.

At this point I’m just following directions. 😂
