🥋🔥 WHAT A WEEKEND FOR TRIAD! 🔥🥋

Our judo crew traveled to Broussard, Louisiana this weekend and absolutely SHOWED UP. Every one of these kids came home with IPPONS and gold or silver! 🏆🔥

That doesn’t happen by accident.

It takes showing up. It takes getting thrown and getting back up. It takes being willing to be uncomfortable, to lose, to learn, and to keep fighting.

And a HUGE S/O to Coach Macey for pouring into these kids and sharing her love of judo with them. The impact she’s making on this next generation of athletes is incredible.

🇺🇸 AND THEN THERE’S OWEN. 🇺🇸
Yesterday, Owen stepped onto the mat IN JAPAN, REPRESENTING TEAM USA.

Let that sink in for a second.
ONE OF OUR OWN IS IN JAPAN WEARING THE RED, WHITE & BLUE. 🇺🇸🔥

He didn’t get the win yesterday — but you know what?
That doesn’t change how proud of him we are!

He stepped onto the mat against some of the best competition in the world, fought his heart out, gained experience, and represented his country.

That takes COURAGE.

And he’s not finished.

🥋 OWEN IS BACK ON THE MAT TODAY — THIS TIME IN THE GI.

Yesterday is yesterday.
Today is another opportunity.
Another fight.
Another chance.
Another opportunity to show the world what he’s made of.
GO GET IT, OWEN. 🇺🇸🔥

Triad is behind you.
Your teammates are behind you.
Your coaches are behind you.
Ruston is behind you.
USA is behind you.

NOW GO REPRESENT.
🇺🇸🥋🔥 TEAM USA. LET’S GO.

Your child is doing something you may have never done.

They’re walking into a room where they don’t know everything.

They’re getting physically exhausted.

They’re being corrected.
They’re losing.
They’re getting frustrated.
They’re learning to stay calm when they’re uncomfortable.

And then they’re coming back next week to do it all over again.

That’s BJJ.

And sometimes, as parents, we don’t realize just how difficult that is because we’re watching from the outside.

It’s easy to say:
“Just keep going.”
“Don’t quit.”
“Why are you upset?”

But our kids don’t need us to make hard things easier.

They need us to teach them how to handle hard things.

That means listening when they’re frustrated without immediately rescuing them.

It means not letting one bad class turn into quitting.

It means helping them understand that losing doesn’t mean they’re bad at something.

It means celebrating effort, courage, improvement and the decision to come back.

And here’s the part I think parents need to hear:
Maybe we need to do hard things too.
Put yourself in a situation where you’re a beginner.
Try something you’re terrible at.
Let yourself be uncomfortable.
Let yourself get corrected.
Let yourself lose.
Let your child see you struggle and keep going.

Because it’s hard to convince our kids that discomfort is something to embrace when we’ve spent our entire lives trying to avoid it ourselves.

Your child doesn’t need you to become a BJJ expert.

They need you to become their biggest believer.
And maybe, sometimes, their example.

Don’t just watch your kid do hard things.
Learn how to do hard things with them.

We have to stop confusing protecting our kids with protecting them from every hard thing.

There is a difference.

We should absolutely protect children from real danger.

But frustration?
Failure?
Discomfort?
Losing?
Being tired?
Having to try again?

Those aren’t things we should always rush in to remove.
Because eventually, our kids will face things we can’t fix for them.

They’ll lose.
They’ll fail.
They’ll get rejected.
They’ll be uncomfortable.
They’ll have to do things they’re scared to do.

And when that day comes, we want them to have something more valuable than a childhood where everything was made easy for them.

We want them to think:
“This is hard… but I can handle hard.”

That’s what we’re building when we let kids struggle in a safe environment.

Not tougher kids.
More capable kids.

The goal isn’t to make childhood harder.
The goal is to make sure our kids don’t grow up believing that hard means stop.

Let them fall.
Let them fail.
Let them be frustrated.
Let them try again.
Let them discover what they’re capable of.

Because someday, they’ll have to face hard things without us standing right beside them.

And they’ll need to know:
“I can do hard things.”

What do you think—do we protect kids too much from discomfort today?

Your child doesn’t need a childhood without risk. They need a safe place to learn how to handle it.

That’s one of the greatest things about martial arts.
We let kids do hard things.

They get tired. They get nervous. They get uncomfortable. They lose. They get back up.

And sometimes, right in the middle of the challenge, they get a drink of water from Dad before stepping back in.

That’s the point.

Not to make childhood completely safe.

But to give our kids a safe environment where they can learn to be strong, capable, resilient, and confident.

Because one day, we won’t be able to step into the ring for them.

We want them to know how to step in for themselves.

🥊 Let them do hard things.
